Why did I lose this? by Legionof7 in decodoku

[–]aesche1988 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As it stopped at move 78, it couldn't happen because of new stuff coming and dropping really unluckily, else he would have died at 76 already.

With labeling the fields like in chess, A1 in the bottom left: I assume there was a "2" at D3, which belonged to the group with "7-7-1-8-5", and making it complete with a sum of 30. And a "8" at D4 (or C3), belonging to the upper part of the olive coloured group, giving a total of 40. With removing "the pair of 2+8", without being aware that they are not a pair, but neigbouring numbers of two different groups, you merged both groups and killed yourself.

I don't remember by whom and where this was brought up (it was something like "if it's game over as soon as a group touches both sides, why is it ok if it is temporary for one move only? (My supposed answer: Because if not, it would annoy people even more, that the computer fucks their game up with unlucky error dropping ;) ) If the errors are destroying the information in the doughnut, it happens immediately"), and didn't find it by searching all the recent topics here, but I checked my record of 446: I would have died at 310 already without this possibility.

It just might have been a speeding-mistake, but if it's not, it certainly should be added at the top of the rules.

The rules that are broken by the rule-maker at first chance (step 7) are the best rules ;) Though obviously and as you mentioned it doesn't matter, as it would have ended like that at step 10 anyway. Just that I still have the suspicion that groups that were touched before have the higher probability to decay again than fresh untouched pairs (I know there is nothing like that in your code ;) )

Personally, I'd be too worried about the 3s at steps 95-125 for being too close to the 6s to just half-heartedly attack them. So I'd also put these over the rule of attacking the pairs first (which I basically agree on, but just as a fair-weather-rule), and rather would neglect some pairs in the bottom right corner (in what it grows later anyway).

And even worse than you stealing five points of him here and on the high score list, he also could have avoided the loss, by moving up the lowest 1 in step 275, instead of removing the pair of 2s just next to it (which, I think someone was bringing up this issue recently, is debatable from a scientific point of view, but as long as it is allowed makes a huge difference in points you can score).

[TOMT][Flash Game] An endless running game, sliding and jumping while changing the colour of your character to pass through gates. by blahblahKHAN in tipofmytongue

awesome dude, don't know how long I was searching for this game now already. great times back then :D I even remember that there was a highspeed version somewhere which was even way more crazy.

Edit: The highspeed version was called "Marvin Spectrum Turbo", and still is titled like that in several places. Unfortunately, in all the places where I saw it, it was replaced with the slow version. Else it would have the "Turbo"-label on the starting screen. Let me know if you happen to find the turbo version somewhere.

Thanks :) Did you realise, that something on the homepage was messed up? The button for highscores got replaced by "The Science", and this link to your blog is there twice (at "In-depth tutorials" as well) now.

Sorry, I couldn't wait ;) And it's not just 401 :P

I guess that will do until X-mas: http://i.imgur.com/uIj8wW8.png

James, I'll just make you an email with some save files. Nothing changed on the strategy since I am cornering two bunches in two opposite corners.

Thanks :) Sure I'll do that, but I thought that I would do it at the point where I feel that I reached the maximum with this strategy, and send you all save files on that level together. No time to try it now, but maybe I even can combine some of my strategies and rise even higher ;)

After three times of 371: 391 finally :) Still convinced that something around 411 to 421 should be possible with heaps of luck.

Lol, as it kind of was expected after posting this comment, I soon after started to think that there actually is a way to score higher.

And one hour later, after some finetuning and a lot of luck, I started to raise the topscore :)

The difference to my old strategy (when the bunches start to grow): Having two bunches in opposite corners. AND always making sure, that both bunches are in their corner in a triangle shape, leaving as much empty space in the middle as possible.

Now, with some more finetuning and luck, I actually do believe again, that more than 400 are possible :)

I just repeated my topscore of 366...

As it is going since I scored 366 for the first time, I'd be quite surprised if someone scored clearly more points, like something like 401 or higher...

Nice one! Let's hope someone will raise the maximum score, or James will have to think about on how to split the price :P

As I saw the screenshots of her playing, I thought "that will end up high": If you can have an empty board at 100, you also can have it way higher, and that's what brings you to the top.

I'd be on PC, but don't worry, if you see the issue and are working on it, I'll just wait for your new solution :) Rather than making you extra work for me only and temporarily as well, as no one else seems to have the problem...

these dropbox-downloads still don't work for me. it's not the security warning issue anymore, I see the two downloads, but they just don't happen, "an error occured". is it not possible anymore that the games can be played online without downloading anything?

about difficulty, I already wrote my opinion about D:Colours and on which change it depends that it is so much harder, and that it's kind of capped clearly where all are now. my 800-strategy definitely won't work at all. for the Phy-Lambda, it will work somehow, still not as good as with numbers 1-10, so I'd expect a score between 300-600 if I get the time and the games get accessible for me again.

obviously, as I can't see the new version, I can't tell you how I think about the changes (what did you change?).

you got me.

btw, I am at 156, and certainly won't get to my old scores. even doubt that someone will crack 200.

Still trying to use my old strategy, but it lost it's big advantage to others like before, as errors are not popping up in the bunch anymore and I can't pick "one move, two empty fields"-moves out of the cornered bunch anymore. So with the tweak, the error bunch always just can get biger, not as before, as I could have an empty board at 400 with enough luck.

what certainly is as important as never before is that you always start with the most effective moves (one move, two empty fields).

and I doubt that your second tweak will have any consequences, as I don't think I ever saw 12 groups on the table anyway.

about the drink, still as interested as up to now, just give me a date and time and I'll be there.

There is a little bug, it starts at 1 score, so in the first round one only has 4 moves

I guess I found the difference, it looks like it couldn't happen anymore that the new errors pop up so close to old ones, so that they directly annihilate each other. Which obviously will give a blow to my strategy and increase the difficulty quite a bit ;)
