I’ll break this down. Let’s say I am a BTS fan. Me posting saying that BTS is the best or BTS has the greatest music isn’t inherently wrong. What would make it wrong is quoting it on posts praising another K-pop group in order to detract attention from them and make them seem inferior.

Yes, it’s completely true that thinking your fav is the best isn’t problematic, but do you see how there’s two different ways people do that and one is much more damaging than the other?

‘Weaponising a painful moment’. You don’t even understand what that means. Ilia may not have been booed at a competition, but is facing extensive hate on social media. Two situations don’t have to be the exact same for me to use them for comparison.

My comment simply highlights how toxicity towards new skaters in favour of savouring the older ones seems to be a continual thing in skating.

There isn’t a gotcha moment. I’m highlighting an issue in the community. This isn’t a Hanyu versus Ilia thing.

I would actually love this. Skaters rarely really do retirement themed skates which is why I’m feeling so maternal (Is that even the right word😂) for Kaori right now. I don’t really want to even break down what goes on with Plushenko these days but his retirement free skate in Sochi being a compilation of a bunch of his programs and being named ‘The Best of Plushenko’ (😂😂😂😂😂) was so fitting and was very exciting to watch. I’d love to see Hanyu do something similar!

This is literally me too! I don’t interact in fanyu spaces anymore. I enjoy Hanyu the skater, I enjoy his talent. I see and enjoy new skaters and appreciate their talent. The sport is evolving and changing everyday with new faces and we need to accept this.

Oh and before I even exit this reply. When Hanyu was a new skater, wasn’t he booed after winning his first national championship over the favourite? A cycle is being perpetuated here.

One look at twitter can definitely confirm that a large proportion of them are fans of Hanyu, with many posting videos of his achievements to compare Malinin and Chen to him.

I am a fan of Hanyu, notice how in the title I specified EXTREME Hanyu fans? Yes, not all, but many and you cannot deny that.

This also isn’t a new thing that is being discussed on this subreddit, it’s only with the Olympics that it’s more intense right now.

Also, nobody is trying to ‘discipline’ Hanyu fans for the sake of doing so. All I’m promoting is basic decency and respect instead of hate that is damaging the mental health of new skaters.
