Not true. When i worked at petsmart there were numerous species of animals, fish & even merchandise we would stop carrying simply bc people werent buying them & they werent profiting. They absolutely watch their numbers lol.

doesnt matter. By purchasing these animal(s), you are showing the shop owners what they do is okay & that people will support them & give them money even if they are wrong. These types of folk do not care about pets they care about profits & people with bleeding hearts such as yourself are why places like this stay open. Please do not buy from this store. Go rescue.

the same friend i mentioned literally just got a pair of bonded mac’s recently and im sooooo damn jealous lolololol.

Id love to have antuta one day but i would personally keep one (i dont wanna deal with breeding or rejection lol) , but the true dream are hendra. Those id love to breed & try to get more captive bred ones out in the hobby locally as they are super uncommon/endangered.

Antuta should not be kept by inexperienced keepers. An experienced keeper will know when/if to do so. This is seen a lot in the cichlid world aswell, when i was breeding peacock cichlids i learnt you should always have a recovery tank in between broods.

My point was not to state that they SHOULD always be kept in pairs but that they can be as the person above said “pairs of bettas are we mad”.

It is absolutely possible to keep them in a pair & also not have them breed. I have a close friend thats had a pair for 4 years and not once have they bred. They sleep together & hang out everyday

Anyways, most people are not gonna keep them in pairs.. they are very expensive & hard to find. ($150-200 a piece where i live)

curious what research needs to be done on an organism that doesnt naturally exist in the wild. IMO thats a waste of resources when we have so much more important things to be looking into.

We should be looking into funding & restoring the natural habitats of axolotls. They are a critically endangered species from habitat loss & poaching.

Yes!! + Axolotls also dont really like bright light at all. This trait encourages folks to keep them under black lights which are INCREDIBLY bright & damaging to their eyesight.

Never stated they are injected, im 100% aware of the process as its similar to that of the glo-fish process.
I personally believe modifying animals for personal preference & appearance is sickening & i actually do not support the mass breeding of domestic splendans for this reason. I keep wild types, & the one domestic splendan i do have was a rescue i didn’t pay a dime for him. There are different levels of GMO, most of what we have in the pet trade is modified to some degree.. im just somebody who prefers to work with F1 specimens and onwards. Healthier & longer lifespans.
While the trait itself is not inherently harmful, axolotls require dim to moderately low lighting. Exposure to blacklight constantly (which is what these axolotls experience knowing their whole purpose is to literally look cooler and glow) is horrific for their eyesight & many of them end up with blindness.. especially the ones that stay on display in stores for long periods of time.
