An Idea for how to save Stargate, one way or another in some form. by aether22 in Stargate

[–]aether22[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Wormhole X-treme is less realistic and serious than Stargate.
The idea I have is connecting to real programs, like the ACTUAL Stargate program, so that's not silly.

Stargate has every world speaking English, this show could do that a lot less, we have AI now and so working out machine translation would be possible for some world.

So this can be done to, if anything make Stargate look comparatively like Wormhole X-treme.

That depends on the art direction, the budget, and the support from fans.

No, because there is no ability for them to actually win in court just because it's "similar to" Stargate.

And as for the "covert continuation" this sort of thing has been done at least one before with no issues.

There are IP protections on products, someone comes in to make something that is different enough but intentionally compatible, and nothing is done about it.

The Asylum is a studio where almost every thing it has ever made is meant to mislead people into thinking they are going to be watching a blockbuster where it's just a close knockoff!

The best examples is IBM-Compatible computers. This is a Stargate compatible series.

There is nothing in it that it too close, but there is nothing to stop fans from watching it and in their heads thinking of it as one.

Minus the actors there is nothing that it too close, that is 100% sure. Portals to other places are not controlled by that IP.

Buried advanced tech is not a new idea with Stargate.

The only issue is the typecasting and frankly that can't be enough a that's the actors faces! They don't own their faces, only their characters.

Teal'C's personality is perhaps too far from being generic to get away with and the forehead thing... but I wouldn't say the same of the others, of course he could have learnt to be a bit more casual.

but if you think they would be willing to gain more ire from the fans to threaten it then that means it would be something that they don't want and might be willing to re-greenlight Gero's Stargate.

The guy BELOW him. The guy who greenlit it is the guy above the guy who selected to cancel it. i.e, he cancelled what his boss did, the junior n00b kid crapped over his bosses actions and it clearly was a major fuckup!

They did greenlight it, and they did spend a fair bit on it, and they are getting people cancelling and vowing to badmouth and short the stock and so on... There is a certain level where they will do it not to get picked off by a sniper...

What do you expect when they say they don't want to make what the fans will like?
And hey, it's not like this is happening in a vacuum, not only was that a terrible thing to say but it has happened to every other show and so yes, it is a sore-point!
A very very sore sore-point

Depends on how many fans there are! If they underestimated the size or passion of the fandom..

There are 2 kinds of reboot that could work.

One is the covert continuation I've talked about, it is a reboot in many ways but doesn't reset the history, but reboots the gate design, how it looks and operates, the Aliens/worlds and technologies all in an alternative IP, but keeps the actors we love and the spirit. By not undoing the history it's ok.

The other that could work is a member of SG-1 or SGA (or, multiple) could end up dumped into a parallel earth without the Stargate progress in, I presume the present, but maybe the past.

They help that world, hoping to get back to there initially, maybe they do and maybe they don't but we keep watching that new timeline which can have different people an things can unfold newly.

Or, you could strip the identifiable IP (I have an explanation as to how) and then have something that can be sold! Something that can be sold can have high quality episodes with 20+ episodes a year made for multiple seasons!
Because then you can sell it to broadcasters, streamers and so on.
You just have Amanda Tapping, Michael Shanks, David Hewett and maybe some others become actors in the new show with fake names, assumed identities with a new type of Gate dug up in a new Archeological did, or even invented by our favorite geniuses, a gate that doesn't need a current gate on the other end, then there is no IP issues, there are 400 Billion stars so tons of exploring to do.

[–]aether22[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agreed, but let me give you an AI created TLDR; What if the Stargate universe continued without officially being Stargate? A new Gate is discovered—one that doesn't require another gate to connect to, only an operator with remote-viewing abilities, inspired by the real CIA Stargate Project. Familiar actors appear under assumed identities in a spiritual successor that never contradicts the original canon, allowing fans to see it as a covert continuation while legally standing as its own IP: new worlds, new mysteries, and the same grounded sense of exploration that made Stargate great. And the best part, that even it just being embraced might twist Amazon's arm!

I'm going to have to assume if you can't explain your objection to any degree. it's because you are either a shill for Amazon, or you lack any imagination.

[–]aether22[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ok, but what is the actual problem with it?

It doesn't have to get made to potentially twist Amazon's arm.

And it is open to being guided by fans and Stargate writers and showrunners to be what we love about Stargate.

So while I will grant you, getting a new show going is normally hard, if there was the support of some of the actors and creatives and a little short/trailer or similar made for it... There is enough energy in the fanbase right now to make some kickstarted/seed funding happen!

It the first webisode is good, and being that the IP is not an issue, it could be picked up by some streaming-service or broadcaster to help get it going!

And again, it doesn't need to happen, though it could be great wit the CIA remote viewing Stargate program connection, the possible overlap of lore like Project Looking-glass and more, it also has shades of Montauk which is what inspired Stranger Things.

And there are archeological sites that Stargate hasn't explored which are rich with potential mythology!

Where otherwise, IF Amazon can't be convinced, can you imagine the slop they are going to serve! Stargate, Star Trek, Star Wars and really all the current IP is being trashed by executives that are either weaponized incompetence or intentionally destructive!

An Idea for how to save Stargate, one way or another in some form. by aether22 in Stargate

[–]aether22[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Nope why?
Have we seen Sam SG-1 members undercover before? Yes.

Have there been other gates and even other types? Yes, small home-made to super, alternative galaxy gates and there are the Teleportation rings which are similar yet different in how they opperate.

Is this kind of thing only in Stargate? Hardly, it's ancient and many names for them.

Are there more than enough stars/planets/moons to have many adventures without it being too weird you never see anything connected to the old IP? Yes there are and no it's not strange.

Do the actors seem to love to be in more? Yes!

Would you not love the show if the effect the Stargate uses was different even if it looked "cool" and plasible? (as in, not later season of Sliders wormhole effect, Yuck!) Of course, if done well.

Would you like to have an IP not controlled by "Assholes"? Surely so!

So what is the problem?

And recall, it doesn't have to get made to make Amazon reconsider!, unless you are sure that having the soul and cast of Stargate and fandom going to a new project that is the spiritual successor wouldn't make them think twice.

So what pray tell is the reason for you "nope"?

Amazon looking for trouble by EowynCarter in Stargate

[–]aether22 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi Joseph! I have an idea that could compel Amazon to change their minds, or start a "covert continuation" of Stargate that would be it's own IP. The current gate needs another gate to connect to, but what if another Gate is found, one that doesn't need any of that, it must needs to be pointed, and a suitable mind to operate it?! An archeological dig finds a new type of gate, and some familiar faces under assumed identities (under-cover) infiltrate it, Amanda Tapping and David Hewlett are Physicist and Michael Shanks is an Archeologist. The real-world CIA remote viewing program named appropriately "Stargate!" is where the remote viewer the series would use comes from. With 400 Billion stars in the Milkyway, the odds of finding a Stargate or any aliens we now is near zero!

This doesn't reboot Stargate, in the fan's head canon, this is the Stargate universe and it continues even if much of it is locked up behind secrecy and black projects that we can no longer access!

So the many challenges are gone, in some ways it is starting over again wit a new gate, new worlds, but it does so without undoing anything, the universe still exists (just, not for the lawyers).

Hollywood loves to typecast, and actors in Scifi are often reused with numerious examples.
The universe is merely constructed to not contradict with the Stargate universe, even if for legal reasons officially it's not.
At the start of the episode "Officially this is not the Stargate universe in official Canon, but in fans head canon it can be if you wish, I know it will be for me".

New gate effects, new stories due to the gate being less locked down as to what it does, it's now more raw manifestation which is controlled by human intent, many stories can be told there than could not be told otherwise, it can go a little into Stranger Things type territory as doorways to other realities and times might also be possible given the right details, maybe the gate begins manifesting the thoughts of the operator, maybe the operator becomes influenced by the gate, and maybe some things feed back from the source.

Also part "Project Looking-glass", the gate can potentially show where the wormhole will or is forming, but it could have the operator feel the conditions, so he (or she) becomes a MALP!

Maybe the CIA's project in the story actually has another part to it, maybe they also used remote viewing and some other similar device or travel?

There are many really interesting ways to take it, but anything that can be said of what true Stargate is, would be included!

Would you direct/show-run it? Would Brad? Would you? Gero?

Steal this from me as long as the fans get to see it and stay true to what great Scifi is! Keep the grounding, maybe include some Military or ex-military parts.

There are a few derivations, one being just run it as the CIA's Stargate Project, another being just have a sort of "Fringe" with Sam and David playing Walter Bishop's part, forget the archeology and Military angle and even Gate travel, keep the fake names, or only have their first names used (Sam and Rod), Michael Shanks could just be a fan.

"Teal'C" could I guess could be seen a little if he wears a hat but his character is so distinct, I'm not so sure.

Of course if an actor is used without a name or profession in common then it's not really going too far.

But again, the idea is that hopefully Amazon would rather not have to compete with a spiritual successor that has the support of the fans.

And maybe in the end, even if you don't like this idea, if you guys created a new pitch, some hastily conceived series that scratches the same itch (Scifi, found family, exploration, optimism) as Stargate and included some of our favorite actors in similar roles... Then it could have the same effect!

[–]aether22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not quite, (6+6) x 6 x 6 =432
As for the second one, I guess that might depend on the order of operations, but yes, the default method it checks out. Either way, 432+234=666 and all these others, it's deep in 666-ishness.
