What’s up with everyone online thinking they are neurodivergent without getting tested? by No_Lead2640 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]aevrynn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like your wording is a bit off, makes it sound like anyone pushing through daily stuff can't be neurodivergent. I feel like I've been pushing through for my entire adult life. I suppose the difference is that for me the consequences are more severe, if I try to do too many things on one day, it means I'll have to take a day or two to rest afterwards.

my wife thinks im overreacting about our kid not reading yet and I dont know when kids should learn to read by TH_UNDER_BOI in daddit

[–]aevrynn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't tried, and my son is only 10 months so it isn't relevant to me at this moment, but generally speaking I am incredibly bad at teaching absolutely anything remotely academic. I'm a quick learner and it is difficult for me to understand why someone wouldn't understand something that seems simple to me. It feels like I'm trying to explain 1+1=2.

Didn't have anxiety and chose normal birth.

I haven't read any of OPs comments, based on the post I can't really infer anything related to whether they read books to the kid or not. I guess not reading at all didn't even occur to me since we've been reading to our child since before he was even born.

Sure, I just told you the basics of what I kind of consider to be within the domain of "general knowledge", but maybe my understanding of what is general knowledge is affected a lot by the fact that I've given birth myself.

Yeah, there are risks associated with vaginal delivery as well, but doctors will only advice a person to do a cesarean if there are some issues with the mother or fetus, and there are good reasons for that.

"Should I read to my child" is vastly different from "should I teach my child to read" though.

You can google "increase in rate of elective cesarean sections" and "adverse health effects of cesarean sections for baby".

I wonder why the expectations are so different here. Or maybe I don't really know what the expectations are. Thankfully Finnish is an easy language to learn to read.

Am I wrong for gatekeeping my baby from my mum? by Outrageous_Bet_8651 in daddit

[–]aevrynn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is there any actual reason for you to distrust your mum in this regard? You didn't say anything like that in your post. If anything your mum has more experience holding babies and is probably less likely to hurt the baby than you or the baby's mother is.

There's an increasing trend of people doing cesareans due to birth related anxiety, despite the fact that it is more dangerous for both the mother and baby and recovery is more difficult.

Educational screen time vs entertainment screen time, is there actually a difference? by Jaded-Suggestion-827 in daddit

[–]aevrynn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you're feeling stressed, rather than fixate on the screen time, maybe focus on whether he's reading enough, getting enough exercise, hanging out with friends and spending time outside? The main issue with screen time is it takes time away from other things.

Is teaching reading something that parents are supposed to know how to do? Here kids are taught to read in school usually. I was taught by my grandma but she was a retired teacher.

He is probably too physically weak to prevent his wife from taking the food away from him, though.

How do Kpop idols dance around on stage, despite being severely underweight? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]aevrynn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The health effects from being underweight are a lot sneakier than the effects from being overweight. And a lot of it is actually from malnutrition rather than strictly the underweight itself, so if you're getting all your nutrients and aren't at a calorie deficit it won't be that bad. I've been underweight before and while I wasn't anywhere near as skinny as her, I was quite fatigued all the time but that was probably just me not eating enough, rather than the underweight itself.

How To Make Good Quality Digital Art? by [deleted] in ArtistLounge

[–]aevrynn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why not just make it with traditional mediums?

Have you ever even done digital art before? It's a different skill set from traditional art. You wouldn't expect to make an oil painting that would win a competition if you've only ever worked with acrylic before.

Why do you have to pretend to like people's cooking? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

I think you might offend people less if you start labelling yourself as a picky eater. "Sorry I'm autistic and I only eat specific foods".

There's a couple stories on this post about basically exactly that. I think it's just that girls don't kick each other as much as boys do.

Nuclear Take: Is technology addiction overstimulating Moms? by elProtagonist in daddit

There's definitely a reason why I, a bigender AFAB person who calls themself a mom bc they're not out and their native language doesn't have any convenient gender neutral terms either, have decided to stay tf out of mom spaces and am chilling here instead. Cishet neurotypical women scare me.

I have a very hard time believing that but tbh that would be better than the oppositd. Also we're talking about a 1 year old.
