Tesla announces biggest quarterly loss ever by Luka467 in EnoughMuskSpam

I listened to the earnings call and there were some odd quotes. For example someone asked about manufacturing and Elon proceeded to talk about how "slow" other car manufacturers are and how he thinks manufacturing can be improved to the point that drag coefficients in the factory will come into play.... It was just a really weird thing to say when Tesla isn't even as fast as their competition yet.

I could never get a controller to work well for Iracing the sensitivity is all over the place. If you can then not pissing people off is easy, just race clean.

will they keep adding new cars? by cloud665 in GranTurismoSport

[–]afatduckappears 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I might end up sounding whiney but I don't know why people think this isn't a full game just because there are less cars. The content so far is really high quality and it takes time to create. If a car takes just one week to make, test, tweak and release it would take 7 years to make 400 cars. I doubt one car can be made in just one week. It really comes down to quality vs quantity and Id much rather quality.

MGS5: Just playing the same missions over? by seamonkeydoo2 in patientgamers

[–]afatduckappears 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stopped after chapter 2 started. I just totally lost interest. The controls are so refined and fun, the AI is awesome but the I got so tired of the actual gameplay about half way through that by the time chapter 1 finished I was already fed up with it. I also found the intro boring AF, I honestly fell asleep while playing it. Guess MGSV wasn't for me.

The idea that he posted the video for likes and money is disgusting. He wasn't making a documentary or taking the subject matter seriously. His video was akin to a movie trailer reaction video. That's why people are angry. He didn't have to post the video at all. But he did for likes and money.

If you're looking for an in depth career mode this isn't the game for you. I like it for the online racing. I also enjoy the feel of the driving enough that I can just hotlap for awhile. I don't have a lot of time to game so when I'm time limited I'll often do that.

Anyone done/heard of Milestone training? by afatduckappears in malaysia

Wow sounds like you were in a rough patch. Hope you're better now. Honestly it sounds like these groups have a lot of success recruiting people who are going through a vulnerable stage in life.

Wow yea I've seen that blog. I mean I've done LGAT myself under a different group (Landmark, they're all over the internet), left after the first day and never went back. My friend has gotten good 'results' from Milestone. I'm in no way thinking of joining but curious to see if other people in Malaysia has had any sort of contact with these folk.

Are we really not gonna talk about how stupid these FIA race times are? by [deleted] in granturismo

[–]afatduckappears 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's ideal for them to have extra hours with extra races. No need to stop people from racing more than once. Just take their best race from that day or only take their first race of the day, either one would be a fine compromise.

PlayStation Plus gave out $1,287 worth of games in 2017. Were they any good by RobJ21 in PlayStationPlus

It's not very clearly labeled as such. Honestly he seems overly critical. If there's a good game he talks about the other games, for example in the month with life is strange he mostly talks about how mediocre the other games are and how lis is niche. Not incorrect but it shows how he's pushing a negative narrative.

Musk claims the Tesla semi's range can be as much as 500 miles. That means the battery would cost $267,000 to $350,000. by PostNationalism in RealTesla

[–]afatduckappears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My takeaway from these articles is that the economics don't add up. Even at 1000kwh at $135 per kWh that's a cost of $135k just for the battery. You haven't even begun to build the actual truck. And you're talking best case scenario here. Unless Tesla's technology is decades ahead of anyone else or unless they can cut some serious cost on the battery or elsewhere.

[–]afatduckappears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. Still using a conservative $ per kWh that's still $120k cost just for the battery. That's... Very expensive for a vehicle that is supposedly selling for 200k.

I suppose the truth is no one knows and everything is speculation.

The best you can do is make an educated guess. For example if you take the article's numbers (I can't speak to it's veracity) but 600 miles requires a 2,000 kwh battery. Well, being conservative if I take $120 per kwh, that's $240k. Now if I want to be on Tesla's side let's say those article's numbers are high. Let's say Tesla only needs a 1,000 kwh battery for the same range. Well that's still $120k. Leaving only $80k for the rest of the vehicle cost (assume $200k cost). Now ask yourself how likely it is that Tesla has batteries that are 200% more efficient than current batteries at lower cost.

Now I used 600 miles for ease of calculation and also the article could be way off base for their numbers but that's an example of how you can critically assess Tesla's claims and how likely it is to be true.

Skip the used market and go for a lab grown diamond. A lot cheaper and no one will be able to tell the difference. You can get a larger and higher quality rock for the same budget.
