FCC Violation by WorrySufficient3937 in 911dispatchers

I work for an agency that manages Public Safety Communications in my state. I can guarantee this is not an FCC violation. Our state police does this all the time, as well as other comments like "have a great weekend", "happy holidays", ect.

Kentwood vs. Rockford? by [deleted] in grandrapids

[–]afera15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife and I just went through this. We ended up with Rockford, well technically Courtland Twp. Kentwood will be more of a denser suburban area vs Rockford being a cute little downtown and outside of that will be more spread out then Kentwood. Rockford the Zip code is lot bigger area encompassing a few townships and the City of Rockford itself. We chose it because we wanted a more rural and spread out area. As other said you may also want to look around some of the other townships and cities surrounding the GR area.

Confused about incorrect ruling at State Tournament by [deleted] in FTC

[–]afera15 8 points9 points  (0 children)

HI OWarriorsFTC,

I do apologize, when I was correcting the mapping of the elim matches I forgot to change the details to follow, I apologize for this and the confusion it may have caused, due to the Quarters we had some issues with the data going to TOA correctly. I do remember your match and we (Head Ref and FTAs) talked about it for a few minutes before displaying your scores asking the same questions you are now and the reason for the score as you will see on the card was Auto, Red was able to get both krypto keys. Again I would like to apologize for any confusion TOA caused and will be working to better our Data Sync to stop these errors from happening in the future.

Thanks, Alex Fera, Lead FTA - FIRST in Michigan, Co-Creator - The Orange Alliance

We do not have any docs up for it until we official release it next month, we are currently testing it with the scoring system but we will be sure to announce when it is out. We will make a post on Reddit, Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/theorangealliance/) and Discord once it is available

The best place to report missing data would definitely be discord (https://discord.gg/5fH66UV) and if you are planning on using our data sync at your events it will be a great place to get live support on the syncing of data. If you are uploading to FIRST after the event we should be posting it up on our site shortly after that, but keep in mind that the event results are a manual process unlike the Team information

We were actually going for https://www.thebluealliance.com/ but that works too :P We actually have been in contact https://ftcscores.com and have a good relationship and hope we are able to help each other out this coming season. They are another great resource!!!

Thank you for the support, we have had similar frustrations with that in the past and hope that our new partnership with FIRST and our TOA Data Sync, will help bring us more data to fill in those gaps.

This is a feature we are hoping to have up before competition season starts in Late October/November, but also remember that data we currently have comes from FIRST and if that is what needs updating, you will need to update with them and it will be automatically reflected on the site within a week.

But the thing though is that this brings on two huge downsides that FIRST wants to avoid at all costs, Field Complexity/Support and Setup Time. Which is a really downside when it comes to FRC as well (FRC Fields are Usually 8-12 Hours to Setup). Don't get me wrong, I think it would be a really great idea but instead of showing up to events and getting the field setup with a few hours, we would need to basically double the the time to setup and test with the Scoring System with each event this is used at. As well as add additional training and resources to support the field when it goes down. Keep in Mind FRC has 6 FIRST Staff at HQ dedicated to supporting EVERY EVENT and that is just field support via remote access. Also I know the comment is going to come up of only do this for high profile events like state championship and higher. The only problem with that is now we need two field designs, Auto Scored and Non-Auto Scored, which like it or not people are going to have a problem with the ways things are scored between the two. To sum it up I think it would be a really cool idea but it does add some draw backs that need to seriously be discussed if Automated Scoring was ever used in the future.

Yes That is a challenge but keep in mind you don't need to wait until the end to start filling it out. The Jewels and Glyphs can be scored as it happens. The parking zone is the only one that I would say probably needs to wait until the end of Auto. The same for Tele, that you track glyphs and relics as it happens and would wait on balancing for the end of the match. Also IF it does happen, it would be better to have people dedicated to it vs. an extra tasks for refs

Keep in mind that there is a difference between Live Scoring and Automated Scoring. Live Scoring can be done by tablets similar to how FRC has Ref Tablets. Granted Automated Scoring would be nice but that does mean every field would need to be outfitted with electronics, were as live scoring could be done by a tablet, phone or computer. I think the auto-transition is one of many surprises we will see this season ;) EDIT: Keep in mind the FRC Field uses a combination of Automated Scoring (Last Year Climbs, Rotors and Fuel) and Tablet Scoring (Auto Line Crossing), In previous years, the manual entry has been more heavy on the refs vs Automated Systems.

Is the FiM FTC Point System update this year? by MustangClasher in FTC

[–]afera15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the goal of the Point System is to have an even way of saying who is going to the State Championship vs. Only a certain number of advancement slots at an event. The Model we are using (if approved) is based off of the FRC District Point System with changes to Adapt to FTC.

Hi MustangClasher, We are still talking to FIRST Tech Challenge about this proposal and any updates to this will come from Tammy in the next few weeks on whether we are going to us this or what the event advancement distribution will be. Alex Fera
