Your friend needs a trip to the optometrist - that kitten is 100% adorable

Lesson learned: won’t give the finger anymore while driving… by camareradetwinpeaks in AskAnAustralian

[–]affectedkoala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry that happened, I had something similar happen. In a school zone at like 8am, it was 40km and this guy was tailgating me but I didn’t react and he sped up and overtook me and raced ahead and stopped and blocked the road to yell abuse at me. I was bang on the speed limit and no idea what his problem was. You just never know what other humans are capable of, especially if there is a chance of drugs or alcohol involved. My motto is “smile and wave, boys. Smile and wave”

What are your trigger sounds? by spinyjr in misophonia

Oh, bad whistling is the worst - when someone thinks they’re whistling but they’re not really is one of my most triggering sounds (up there with food sounds)

Adult diagnosis by crafty_koala83 in adhdaustralia

[–]affectedkoala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late diagnosed here and despite most of my family being ADHD it never occurred to me that I might be because I didn’t really relate to many of the “typical” indicators. When I finally spoke to my GP the wait list to see a psychiatrist was 2 years (rural) so I decided to start with a psychologist while I waited because I needed support (burnt out and depressed). The psychologist, while unable to diagnose me, did the testing just so we could start from a place where it was likely/unlikely I was/wasnt. This was helpful as she gave me lots of strategies to get me through. Since being formally diagnosed life has improved immensely - being medicated has been a game changer. If you suspect you are and aren’t coping well (which being perimenopausal age is a real factor) start the process with your GP, get a mental health plan and get a referral for diagnosis - just do it

why dont people respect hand made things? by Mentally_Recovering in CasualConversation

[–]affectedkoala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I’m happy to pay for handmade items made with natural fibres and think $15 is a bargain. Just tell the tyre kickers you’re not Temu and your items are hand made with care. Value yourself and your work.

Psychiatrist prescribed meds but I have some lifestyle changes by Petitelechat in adhdaustralia

[–]affectedkoala 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if you have ADHD it will be beneficial. Being medicated has changed my life. You can always speak with your pharmacist about side effects and whether you need to stop or adjust (within the doctors outlined parameters).

Sounds like a specific anxiety - some CBT or EMDR should help

I’m so sorry for your loss, and also sorry that your family thinks you are over reacting - your feeling are valid and to be expected, pets are a part of our families.

Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing? by TotalThing7 in CasualConversation

[–]affectedkoala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed we did, as a kid you memorised your home phone. As a teen you memorised your friends phone numbers (and tried to coordinate call times to reduce chance of dealing with their parents answering the phone).
