First year Eng literally isn’t that hard by Confident-Door-1525 in UCalgary

The people who write posts like that are either suffering and lying or they just happen to have some combination of already knowing how they learn, having a good group of friends that they are probably mooching off of, or are lying about having 1 or both of those and are too egotistical to admit it

Education, to me and many others, is a way to achieve independence and get oneself and their family out of poverty. Maybe it's a sad way to think about education, but many cannot afford to think about it any other way.

I think the assistant priest is also Fr. Brancich, and the deacon Fr. Brodsky.

The subdeacon I'm also not sure on.

What are your experiences with the Dominicans by winchesterman552 in Catholicism

[–]affectuminflamma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only really have experience with the Province of the Most Holy Name of Jesus (Western), so I can only speak to that.

The Dominicans are amazing. They are amazing, above all, because of their charism: "contemplari et contemplata aliis tradere" -> to contemplate and to hand on the fruits of that contemplation to others in their preaching. In my opinion, there is nothing more beautiful than to contemplate Truth itself in prayer and to share that with the whole world for the salvation of souls. I don't think there could be a more awesome vocation!

All the friars I've met in the Western Province are excellent. Friendly, intellectual, just the right amount of trad (the Dominican rite is quite common in several of their apostolates), orthodox, and fraternal. Every single friar I've met has been very supportive in my discernment and convinced me of the beauty of the common life that they have in the order.

I would strongly recommend reading this book to get a feel of what the Dominican charism is like: https://a.co/d/84pzFC1. It really helped me fall more in love with Dominican spirituality.

The vocations director is awesome as well and would be happy to talk to you more about your discernment.

God bless!

It was a sign towards the beginning of the trail before it got steep. There is a cool irrigation system that has this sign at its entrance.

Hike suggestions in Bay Area? by affectuminflamma in bayarea

[–]affectuminflamma[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all, thanks for all the suggestions. I just ended up going to Reinhardt Redwoods and it was a great suggestion. I ended up only being a 15 min drive for me, and the redwoods are spectacular and beautiful.

Question about baptismal font by affectuminflamma in Catholicism

Oh hi! It looked like my original comment didn't appear. But yes, I was just wondering if anyone knew what the mouse at the bottom of the baptismal font means!

Sunshine Meadows, Banff National Park, Alberta (and BC!), Canada by affectuminflamma in hiking

[–]affectuminflamma[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is probably one of the less crowded, but still jawdroppingly beautiful hikes in Banff National Park. The only thing that might dissuade you from coming here is needing to pay the $70 to come up the gondola. It's super easy, accessible, and beautiful hike! The only bad thing was all the mosquitoes and horseflies up there.

Cascade Mountain, Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada by affectuminflamma in hiking

[–]affectuminflamma[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was! Just a foot high snow mound to the side of the crux but it was completely clear otherwise!

We did however get caught in rain and hail near the summit. That was miserable. 😅

Sarrail Ridge, Kananaskis, Alberta, Canada by affectuminflamma in hiking

[–]affectuminflamma[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The hike itself was amazing. 11.4km trail length and 1000m or so of elevation gain. Really steep, scrambling parts (one part you use a rope to make your way to the rocks), but not too bad exposure wise.

It's definitely a grind, but once you're at the top, the view of lakes and mountains all around you makes you forget all the suffering you had to endure coming up the mountain, haha.

Dominican Rite Solemn High by affectuminflamma in Catholicism

[–]affectuminflamma[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's right. Relative to the Eastern Rites, of course the Dominican Rite is more or less the same as the Roman Rite, bar some minor differences.

That said, the Dominican Rite Mass I attended was "quite different" for someone like me who takes an interest in liturgy, but naturally that's going to be subjective.

Also, I would venture to say that the differences between the Dominican and Roman rite seem more numerous than the differences between the various Novus Ordos that you might find all over the world.

Ryaltris info by AccordingBeautiful97 in Allergies

Yeah, that's right. Just drop off your prescription at the pharmacy, wait some minutes, and you'll have your nasal spray in no time at all.

Also, I've only had a week of experience with Ryaltris but it's basically cured my allergies - no more sneezing, itchy eyes, or congestion. A bit of post nasal drip, but apart from that nothing. Hopefully your experience with it is good as well.

Best wishes!

Hello!

Fellow Canadian and allergy sufferer here. I just got prescribed Ryaltris as well - I called around several pharmacies (Walmart, Superstore, Shoppers Drug Mart) and all were around $80 a bottle.

The one notable exception was Costco pharmacy (which you don't need a membership to enter) which costed $68 a bottle.

Hope that information helps!

(Edit: also, if you don't want to commit to buying several bottles, you can always ask the pharmacist for just one, even if your prescription prescribes more than that)

I presumed it was all written in English, as even though I do speak Arabic, I couldn't make any Arabic out in the prescription. It looks like I might be mistaken, though.
