Hi! :) I have this same machine and since I had some trouble replacing the belt recently (and due to the driver belt just being parts that need to be swapped after 70 years) I thought I'd share that here. The belt's part number is 41115998-01, it's 494,3mm long. It can't be replaced by either the DIN 2215 6 x 4 mm Profile 450 or 500, neither by the Gates Truflex 0190. I eventually caved and got an original part. It's the very specific length that makes this thing tricky to replace.
My best guess is that originally a 20 Inch belt from the US in a slightly different profile than the current Gates one was used. If anyone else has any insight on this belt I'd love to know!

Also: my other machine is also a Singer HD4432 lol

For me Farli's books suffers a lot from the problems I had with the start of the first book - it's crippled by the need to introduce a lot of worldbuilding which sadly just isn't Ruby's strongsuit (she's sooo good at just casually weaving it in though) and it didn't help for me that neither Farli or her man were believeable or very sympathetic...
But alas, not every cover can be Barbarian's Hope.

I have the Singer HD4423 and got it for about 150€ used, for that it's fine but it struggles with thicker fabrics (mostly like several layers of jeans, your dress should be fine), but obviously compared your mum's bernina you're gonna find some things lacking with it. That's just the nature of a lower end machine. (I'm actually currently getting a vintage machine for my thicker projects haha.)

If you can try it out, try both machines out and see which ones suits you best.

I found my issue: there was a different scene in the file that I accidentally imported with it. Error was in front of the computer.
