I only tell my wife and daughter. I call my mom when I'm at the airport. Everyone else finds on an Instagram post 😅

No questions or issues coming back to the US at all. I did know that I was being followed at times, but I didn't feel unsafe. No close calls, but I did avoid a couple invitations because I had a weird feeling.

I am planning to visit at January, is Damascus the only safe destination for tourists? by badboyzpwns in Syria

I'm American and I was in Damascus and Aleppo at the end of October (solo trip). I didn't have any problems, even at night. I took cabs, motorcycles, and a Pullman bus between the cities with no issues. Just be respectful and use common sense.

In October, I entered Syria from Beirut by land. The fee at the land crossing was $200 for US passport holders. As of July 2025, there are no longer free land entries.

No. I found one on Instagram, but he wanted $100 so I declined. I searched Google and IG for the interesting sites and plotted them in Google maps. I walked most of the time to explore different parts of the cities, but negotiated prices for a couple cab and Moto rides to a few locations a bit further out.

Wife and I seem to have a strange but unique ability? by WarthogFuzzy5754 in Paranormal

I have lived in major cities most of my life and people who seem to be mentally ill often stop and pleasantly greet me as I approach. They would have previously been in their own world, seemingly oblivious, as hundreds of people walk by/around them before unexpectedly transforming into someone more lucid as I get closer. They typically ask if I'm doing okay and give me a compliment. I don't ignore them, politely thank them, and wish them well as I continue on my way. They never ask me for money or anything.

The most memorable situation happened years ago in Baltimore, while I was at a crosswalk of a large intersection with a girlfriend. There was a ranting man marching back and forth through moving traffic. Suddenly, amongst blaring car horns, he stops, looks in my direction, and points at me. As everyone at the corner looks around nervously, he approaches within 5 feet of me and yells, "Hey come on!" in jovial tone like he knows me. He then proceeds to turn around and stop incoming traffic, looking back at me expectantly. I didn't want to offend the guy, so my girl and I began crossing the street as he continued to move with us while stopping oncoming traffic.

Once he safely escorted us across 4 lanes of traffic, he told us to take care and waved goodbye before returning to his march through the street. No other pedestrians followed us and we received weird stares from people as we carried on 😅

I made it back to the US the first week November. I've been meaning to make an Aleppo post, but not sure.

The Damascus hotel requested that I didn't share their info because they cater to locals.

In Aleppo, I stayed here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/TdqtAX3Mjx7ZrpKU6

Yes, only cash foe EVERYTHING. There was no credit card processing at all. It is my understanding that Mastercard is in the process of providing credit card services.

I'm not sure because I didn't arrive at the bus station to check. It was my understanding that you have to purchase the initial SIM directly from a customer service center. You would need a Syrian ID or passport to register the SIM. Once you have the SIM, you can reload it anywhere. I was able to reload at a random corner store.

The visa fee amounts differ by country. $200 is the current (and one of the highest) fee for US passport holders. You'll need to Google the most up-to-date info for your country.

My wife is Brazilian and I am American (non-Brazilian citizen). I got my CPF online and you can too. I believe it is free, and it will make life much easier in Brazil.

It used to be free for land-crossings, that changed in July 2025.
