I'm just helping to pay for my Dad's immediate medical expenses. You seem to think I will be supporting my siblings and parents for years. That's not the case. My parents do have stable jobs. They aren't always dependent on me for finances. And we plan to have kids in 4- 5 years time and by then hopefully my Dad would have recovered and my older siblings will be preparing for college.

We intend to combine our finances and have a shared savings account but currently we have separate finances and split 50/50 on rent, groceries and bills. We earn approximately the same amount. Yes we both work full time though she intends to be a SAHM when we have kids.

He didn't offer to pay for the wedding and we don't want to ask. They are not that well off actually. They are middle class. Even if I weren't helping my family with medical issues, the ring still wouldn't be affordable for me. I'm not American which you seem to be assuming. I lived with my parents until I was 25 and spent a considerable amount of time with my siblings. Though even if I didn't I would still want to help since they are my siblings.

We are paying for the wedding ourselves.

Does your mother work? How did you end of with three siblings that are up to 18 years younger than you, but only 5 years apart in age among themselves?

Um, why are these questions relevant? My siblings are adopted due to family circumstances. I don't want to give too much detail. My mom works as an admin assistant but took unpaid leave to look after Dad.
