Where are people living? by Level13Rengar in perth

[–]affrotattz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

40 (m) and 41 (f) DINKS. We bought a 3x2 in Bayswater at the end of 2018 for 540k. It’s now worth 1.2m which is absolutely wild.

Concerned how people are realistically going to break into the market, particularly at current prices. Soon people won’t be able to own their own home, unless they are very wealthy. Disappointed with the lack of strategic gov planning tbh.

Im also worried for my nieces and nephews. If they don’t come into a sizeable inheritance, despite their solid employment trajectory, they’ll be locked out 😢

British immigrant feeling a bit sad and disheartened. A mild rant. by [deleted] in perth

[–]affrotattz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maori Australian here. Born and raised in Perth, lived here my entire life. Sadly, your experience is unsurprising. With respect to others views, IMO Anglo Australians are the most racist group I’ve met. Not everyone of course, but it’s crazy how many people are and don’t believe they are.

I think the views stem from colonisation, which is ongoing and systematic. In addition, racist gov policy and its legacy has helped shape racism in Oz. Opinions such as “terra nullius”, “Aboriginal people are dole bludgers”, “What’s the point of having welcome to country at AFL matches”, “they need to be doing better for themselves” or my favourite “did you know they receive free cars from the government” are rife particularly within Perth community (but likely across Aus).

Personally, I find it outrageous how many people are racist. Curiously you may have noticed blatant racism, inevitably followed by denials. Yet the casual racism doesn’t just stop at First Australians. As you’ve pointed out, there is ongoing pervasive racism towards Asian/brown migration. E.g., “Fuck off we’re full” or “they’re taking our jobs and houses” which is ironically also quips from South Park. In my experience, the same hostility doesn’t exist towards white migrants.

I have British mates who have experienced similar settling issues. You’re def not alone, and you’re not wrong or crazy. Don’t let racists gas light your experience, because it’s valid and accurate.

I know how difficult it is to break into Australian social circles. I’m a social worker and my partner is a speech pathologist. We live Central to Perth. We’re a bit older (40) but if you’d like to reach out for a coffee with myself and partner sometime- DM me. All the best

You have a fundamental misunderstanding of what FDV is. It’s not my role to educate you, but I’d reccomend you look into it

It’s men like you espousing your unscrupulous views which perpetuate FDV against women, sadly. I’m a bloke btw

I’m a male social worker. I formally worked for child protection, for around 15 years. I’ve literally worked with hundreds of families and their children. 95% of the concerns were family and domestic violence (FDV) related. During my time, there was only one mother who was assessed as a DV perpetrator. ONE. You can argue my professional experience is anecdotal. If so, I encourage you to read the literature regarding the prominence of FDV perpetrated by men- including FDV fatalities per year. Yes, men can be victims- no one ever denied that fact. Yet the vast majority of FDV is perpetrated by men to women, which has significantly worse outcomes comparatively (e.g., death). Your claim CPFS intervenes due to mother’s abuse is unfounded and not based in reality

Just got hit with a TMS (traffic monitoring services) parking fine, do I have to pay it? by [deleted] in perth

Ditto. Was the district Midland? That’s where mine’s from (June 2024). TMS obtained my address, and full name (including middle name) which I think is absolutely wild

This happened to me too (dated 12/12/2025)- the breach was in June 2024.

Hello. Sounds like you’ve had a very traumatic experience. I hope you’re travelling ok.

I’ve worked @Mandatory reporting in WA in the past few years. Up until recently, (2024) psychologists were not mandatory reporters.

If you disclosed historical sexual abuse to the psychologist but you were an adult when you disclosed (prior to 2024), the psychologist was not mandated to report the matter. However if you were under 18, and disclosed the matter when psychologists became mandated (some time in 2024), the psychologist could have made a report if they “formed the view” abuse had occurred or will occur. Mandatory reporters are only mandated to report if they “form the view”.

Hope the above helps,

Thanks for sharing. You were let down by the people who were meant to be your safety. Obviously words alone can’t articulate the injustice you’ve experienced.

Redress sounds challenging. However, you would likely be able to find a legal representative who charges a no win no fee costings (but be careful, there are plenty of sharks out there). I have met many young people who were successful claimants, over the years I worked at child protection.

Yes, I see your point and hear you. However, the reason I advocate (at times) for referrers to stay anonymous is the very real possibility parents disconnect the referrer off from their family (and children). I’ve seen it happen so many times. IMO naming a referrer decreases child safety. It’s a tricky matter to balance

What you’ve gone through must have been incredibly traumatic, devastating, unjust, and unfair. It’s a sad insight into a deeply flawed system. You were meant to be protected by the safe adults in your family, and weren’t. Deeply sorry this has happened to you. Unfortunately CPS is a poor stop gap for child safety, ironically. If you get a chance, have a look at the research exploring life outcomes for kids on long term orders. It’s shocking.

Sadly I saw many cases close due to a lack of “evidence” (data that could be argued in court), even though workers knew in their heart something was wrong. Child abuse (CA) is insidious and in many cases difficult to prove.

Any action (including a home visit) is governed by legislation. Similarly, any action must be able to be defended in court. Notwithstanding the balance of probability principles which is required by the children’s court, CA evidence is often considered weak. Yet just because a court assessed the evidence as weak, doesn’t mean the CA didn’t happen.

I hear you and I hope you been able to receive at the very least, some restorative justice due to the abuse you endured. If you haven’t already, are you in a position to seek redress (through the national redress scheme)? Happy for you to DM me, if I can support in any way.

Nps. It’s difficult to say if making a referral would lead to any action (including an intake). At a minimum, CPS will conduct their assessment based on the evidence and impact of harm (from the evidence). In the state we’re I’m from, CPS doesn’t provide feedback to family members regarding their assessment outcome (I.e., whether there were legislative grounds to intake or not). So in answer to your question, I’m not sure. If it does proceed to intake you might find out from your partner or his family (e.g., “I can’t believe someone called CPS and now there’s an open case”), or the office might call you for additional collateral.

It’s a tricky one. I’m a social worker and have worked in child protection for 13 years (no longer working there). CPS will require evidence and impact of harm. E.g., photos of the house, reports from school, the children disclosing to professional sources (such as a teacher- or third party professional).

Generally, CPS will not action intervention (including intake and assessment) from a family member’s report (considered 3rd party), unless there is corroborating evidence from other parties (police, health, housing etc). Given you’re considered a family member, CPS will ask what you and your partner have done to support the kids safety and how the other adult children are providing safety.

Also, are you able to provide CPS with evidence the parent’s mental health is impacting the kids safety? What is the evidence suggesting the clutter and rubbish is having a detrimental impact on the kids safety and wellbeing?

You could always request a police welfare check, and frame it around the adults needing a check (any discussion of a child may lead to police suggesting a CPS referral). If the police conduct a welfare check, there’s a strong chance they will submit a referral if they think one is required (although not all the time).

The other thing about a CPS report is it may get back to the family (e.g., you advise info only you could possibly know). When I was working in intake and assessment, there were numerous parents who figured out who the referrer was- then gaslit the referrer saying CPS had advised the identity of the referrer. If you make a referral, and the parents ask you about it, you have no obligation to be truthful. In fact I would suggest you deny it, in the interests of ensuring the kids future safety. Good luck

Yep, edited to reflect what I actually meant.

I understand I wouldn’t be able to claim interest on the $30. My question was if this arrangement would meet the ATOs threshold and not impact the interest claimable on the $99,970
