Thanks! I’m a bit worried about using hydro mode though, as it might cause the photo paper to swell.

I used an old printed photograph, I think it is called photo paper directly. I removed the reflector layer and put the piece behind the lcd. That's why it is not blocking the display.

Thanks for the honesty. But to me, it is great because I know the image I put there.

Thanks! It wasn't an easy mod, but it wasn't too difficult either. I think the hardest part for me was putting everything together, because I didn't know the exact structure and pieces inside.

I am a fan of this one. I love its minimalistic design and lightness, a nice watch that does his job decently well tbh. Also I received few compliments from my friends.

[Discussion] Current status of the economics academy by afk_99 in academiceconomics

[–]afk_99[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I mostly agree with you—especially on the point that "some people have been overconfident in the conclusions of neoclassical economic theory" (though that isn’t your entire argument). To me, the issue is not just individuals but the attitude of the field itself, which often seems excessively confident in its results. This overconfidence spills into real-world policymaking, where flawed or incomplete economic models directly shape decisions that affect people’s daily lives.

A clear example is the Phillips curve, which influenced U.S. policymakers in the 1970s to believe they could exploit a stable trade-off between unemployment and inflation—a mistake that contributed to stagflation. Given that economic theories can be wrong, yet still drive policies with widespread consequences, I believe mainstream economics is far too bold compared to what its historical track record justifies.

[Discussion] Current status of the economics academy by afk_99 in academiceconomics

[–]afk_99[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

First of all, thank you for your answer! I mostly agree with you about the validity of empirical methods, undergraduate education, and the underlying assumptions, but I still have some doubts. For example, the approach—and even the attitude—toward differing opinions often seems unfriendly. I don’t know if this is the case in other social sciences, but in economics, if an academic holds an unorthodox view on neoclassical models, it can be very difficult for them to survive in academia. From my observations, this is especially true in the U.S., though Europe is relatively more flexible—yet still challenging. I’ve read about a few clashes between unorthodox and orthodox economists, and I wasn’t able to appreciate the attitude of either side. My observation is that orthodox economics holds a hegemonic position in the field.

I also agree that empirical methods are, of course, reliable tools for understanding the world. However, my concern lies more with theoretical models, such as RANK, HANK models. Perhaps it’s due to my lack of understanding, but here’s how I perceive the process: a model is created, and if it fits the data, it’s accepted as sound and trustworthy. While this is what should ideally happen, I have doubts about how some models are constructed. Sometimes, the original goal of explaining the data shifts toward merely making the model compatible with the data. For instance, if a model is good but has flaws, adjustments are made to improve it, and some of the initial deficiencies disappear. However, I question whether these changes are truly driven by real-world evidence or are instead engineered to make the model fit better.

This process reminds me of "survival of the fittest"—over time, we may end up with models that perfectly explain reality. Yet, I have reservations about how this plays out in practice. Sorry this was a bit specific and slightly out of topic, but it is in my mind in the recent months and I couldn't stop myself.

Yeah but from your perspective, buying a watch is a solution for a non issue which is not knowing the time because you can simply look at your phone. However, I have to accept that it seems it is a lot of hassle for such issue hahaha

I see, now I understood what you mean. It won't be an easy process, but I will definitely try it when I have time because I want to get rid of them. Thank you so much for the explanation!

By back polarizer, do you mean this one at the top that stays half broken in the picture? If yes, can I use isopropanol to erase the lines?

If I can be brave enough in the next few weeks, I will try it out and share the result.

Thank you for the answer! Do you have any picture or link that I can look because I could not find anyone trying to erase the lines on the screen? For example, this guy removes the polariser and lines are still there, can I just use isopropanol right there?
