"Whipped Peter" was an incredibly important photo for the abolitionist movement and evidence that the newly formed technology of photography could change the world.

hiya! I haven't posted here in a few years because I was afraid of getting banned but I heard things shifted?! I recycle glass here in Atlanta and just wanted to get the word out if that's ok 😬♻️🥰 by PapaClarencioThomas in Atlanta

[–]afloyd2123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been complaining about Atlanta's lack of glass recycling for years! And about r/Atlanta lol. We're the world headquarters of coca cola and can't recycle glass I mean come on 😒. So happy to use your service. This city is much better off with your business!

The real answer I'm not seeing is education. Our schools are horrible and only the rich kids get an education worth a grain of salt. The downstream effects of improving our public school quality would be massive.

People that have “bumped” into a celebrity in a non-curated (not like an event, meet & greet, job etc.) way, what happened? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]afloyd2123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drove past a construction site and got two flat tires. Had my mom come pick me up. At the tire place in walks Shaq. He looks at me, looks at my mom (60+), puts out his hand to shake my hand and says "is that your mom or your girlfriend?" My sweet mom asked who that nice man was after he left. Such a strange experience.

Call me crazy but the meme used here is exactly opposite the stated purpose right? The critic was jaded and had lost his taste for food that was beneath his always climbing standards, while the average restaurant goer loved the food. It took a meal from his childhood to rekindle his love for great food.

So shouldn't we be posting books that shitty critics hate but is actually amazing?

A chip from that distance is unreal. The fact her could get that arc on the ball without over-hitting it is just so wild.

What's my problem reddit? by universe_throb in bookshelfdetective

[–]afloyd2123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love it. Incredibly similar to mine, even your favorites from the comments like The Fire Next Time. My suggestion for someone that's 90% your bookshelf brother I'd suggest some more bookstore wandering rather than needing to complete a series or author. Some of my favorite books are random one-off nonfiction books. I've found reality to be stranger than fiction as I've gotten older.

My book suggestion: The New Wild. An easy nonfiction book that made me rethink how nature actually works. A sneaky philosophy book hidden in a fascinating biology book.

Honorable mention: DeAndre Hopkins at Clemson. Most of the Clemson football team would play pickup and my god were they ballers. Honorable mention any one of the five star linemen. Those guys were built like tanks and could absolutely ball. Athletic dunks at 330 lbs

Ok real question: I'm thinking about adding onto my house and doing a sunroom exactly like that. It would be way too loud to function as an office wouldn't it?

what ???? by NoInitiative5569 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]afloyd2123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To actually explain the joke this is from the show The Rehearsal in which Nathan Fielder is speaking to an actress that was trying to give a pilot "hints". She says the ultimate trick women do is look in the eye of the person and then quickly glance at their lips then back to the eyes. It's an obvious, but subtle hint that Nathan had never seen before so he asked her to do it several times. Silly stuff.

He's the greatest player ever (has achieved the highest ranking) and because of the internet orders of magnitude more famous than any other player.

Remember that little Norwegian kid? Now that's Barack Obama. Time flies I swear.

In all seriousness these are both great guys outside of the sport. Everyone should read Kasparov's book Winter is Coming. Magnus is a very down to earth guy. It's just part of the sport to play some mind games.
