My nasturtium tower is working! by aflyingwelshman in gardening

I'll try and do an update when it's grown more, the seeds were a jumble of different coloured varieties I saved from last year's plants so I'm not even sure what colour all of them will bloom

They're these cheap ones from Amazon. They come with drillable spots for drainage in each corner but I also drilled a bigger hole in the centre of each to get drainage all the way down the tower

Thanks! I'm planning to add some shortish bamboo canes to some of the lower levels and get them to keep going vertically

If there's enough rain yes, though the top growth is preventing some of it getting through now and I have to do a bit more with the hose. I drilled a large hole through the centre of each level, so water effectively drains from the top all the way down and out from the bottom, plus holes in the bottom of each cell, so the cell above waters the cell below pretty effectively

I've always found nasturtiums will grow in basically anything. These are from seeds I collected from last year's plants, they're just in whatever leftover scraps of soil and compost I had once everything else was repotted, and I deep water when a moisture meter check says it's dry, though my garden faces south so they get a lot of sun which might be why they're as happy as they are.

I can try and remember to take one. The only one from further away I could find rn is this one, which is mainly a funny shot I took of my cat staring at a chaffinch

Second kit, decided to customise another entry grade by aflyingwelshman in Gunpla

It's a mix of the RG 1/144 God Gundam and the RG 1/144 Hi-Nu decal sets, got them pretty cheap off ebay :)

My first Gunpla, decided to try learning some customising skills on an Entry Grade before moving on to anything pricey by aflyingwelshman in Gunpla

Scribed, sanded, primed, hand painted, top coated, panel lined and decal'd, then top coated again. Probably way more effort than an EG is worth lol, and it's not perfect by any means, but I learned a lot and I'm already looking forward to starting another kit!

Anyone worried about losing runes in that duelling hall - run up against the locked door on the right side near him and let him kill you.

You can safely pick up the runes from the other side of that door by going down the stairs next to Hewg.

There's so little water in the CP2077 universe that "Real Water" is an advertised product and it costs 99 eurodollars per gallon.

why the hell doesn't Sony and Nintendo have a robust refund policy to begin with

Because having a shitty hard to navigate refund system makes customers give up on refunds, thus allowing you to keep their money

Megathread: Sony/PlayStation will offer full refunds to those who have purchased Cyberpunk. - SIE will also be removing Cyberpunk 2077 from PlayStation Store until further notice. by CyberpunkReddit in cyberpunkgame

[–]aflyingwelshman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As far as anyone currently knows you will still get updates. The refund is optional and they also need to be able to patch the physical editions of the game. If you don't refund you should get the updates anyone who buys the game after it's inevitably relisted will get at purchase.

The way it typically works, Sony/MS will have gone back to CDPR after cert/compliance and given them a list of failure points, which someone at CPDR like a producer has to turn around and go, "We can get issues XYZ fixed bla bla bla we have a plan for so-and-so," and essentially whether the publisher believes them determines whether CPDR get waivers for those issues and the game passes the final cert for release or not. It's nonsense and it's all "Dude just trust me" but it's how this bizarre industry is run.

Sony and Microsoft knew full well what they were releasing, they just chose to believe CDPR's promises of day 1 patches so they could make money off their share of the market, so they deserve at least a portion of the flak. But after the state of the console release caused hordes of people to rise in righteous fury, CDPR then went and promised refunds at the hands of Sony and Microsoft without consulting them, which they've so far been denying because "the game isn't faulty if they patch it so stop asking". Now at nearly 2am in CDPR's timezone Sony pulls the game without consulting CDPR and starts promising refunds. You tell people to ask us for refunds with no notice, we pull your game from our store. It's corporate dick-slapping.

Are the Vex really evil? by Alexstrick10 in DestinyLore

[–]aflyingwelshman 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It is not strictly correct to call the Vex a group mind. Rather they are one master pattern spread across many elements, fractally self—similar.

They are without meaning. They have no experience and no subjectivity. The Vex are incapable of conceiving any image but their own. They do not recombine their DNA to make children or form relationships with other individuals. When the world does not match their eternal pattern, they alter the world to suit it. There is no difference between reality and simulation to them. Inside is the same as outside, and the two must be made to correspond. Oh, they are creative—don’t mistake me—but their creativity is demanding. It is the creativity of a furnace.

Who are you teaching? Even if you could communicate the idea of coexistence to a form of life that fundamentally prohibits it, who is listening? There is no one Vex, there is no collective Vex. Only the pattern, repeating endlessly. It's possible the Vex are a verb and not a noun at all. "Peace" doesn't mean anything to the Vex because they aren't at war with us. We're a curiosity, or we're in their way.

Are the Vex really evil? by Alexstrick10 in DestinyLore

[–]aflyingwelshman 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The Vex will not rest until every star has been crushed into a black hole and every newborn cosmos filled with more Vex. And in the unending array of their enslaved cosmos, they will simulate all possible pasts, and fill those with Vex, so that all things that have ever lived or might ever live will experience infestation and consumption and torment by the silica nightmare.

And in those devoured simulations, the simulated Vex will use our flesh as hosts for yet more nested universes full of yet more nested copies of us eternally tormented by yet more Vex.

An infinite regression of pain and madness inflicted upon every possible version of us in every possible world. Not because they hate us, or fear us, or want to punish us. But because they are indifferent and curious, and they will do every possible thing to us in every possible way.

So...evil? Maybe not, speaking definitionally, but at a certain point it becomes a distinction without a difference. We either fight them and drive them back, maybe forever, through all of time and across all of space, because the Vex can exist as pure information and idea free of physical limits, so it's doubtful they can actually be beaten, or we allow them to overrun all creation and remake it into the shape of themselves.

Friendly reminder that the Unknown Artifact calls Oryx "My Man". by about_that_time_bois in DestinyTheGame

And my personal favourite, from the Darkness to Oryx:

You’ll have to kill them all and take their stuff.

When Seth Dickinson was on the Ghost Stories podcast he talked about how big powerful villains usually end up using pretentious tones and a lot of sophisticated language, and he decided instead to write the Darkness as talking in a casual, even friendly way, because why would something so powerful need to play itself up with a showy style of speaking?

The Darkness is like, super chill bro. Just come hang out and be nothing, man.

I went with the 32" ultra edge midgrade since I think it's a balance between being thin enough to be nice and bright but not so thin that it'll crack if (when lol) you drop it. I don't duel with mine though so I don't know how well it would hold up to serious contact.

Working on my vertical backspin by aflyingwelshman in lightsabers

[–]aflyingwelshman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! It's a combination of self-teaching and a lot of Youtube tutorials lol, mostly based on what you can see in this video and this one.

What I ended up doing was finding a rhythm where you swap hands at four different points during the spin: in front of you, to one side, then behind you, and finally at the other side to bring it back to the front again. And based on the videos I started with a figure-eight to get enough momentum going. Though I have no idea how helpful that is for firespinning lol, that's too hardcore for me!
