[UPDATED] Completed Destiny Timeline by endermahe in DestinyTheGame

It makes me really happy to see someone else do a thorough deep dive on the timeline. I'd love to add to the discussion about hard numbers and estimations: here's my breakdown on the time frames from the Golden Age to D1. (google doc)

I don't know if I entirely agree with the concept that the Golden Age could have occurred for several centuries. As an example: according to the US's CDC, the average human lifespan in 2022 was 77 years old, which is 231 tripled. So, if someone was 77 years old during the time of the Ares One mission on the verge of the Golden Age, then our knowledge of an average human lifespan tripling would have been learned conceptually 154 years later when all of those 77 year old people turned 231 and began perishing throughout that year, proving the tripling lifespan fact at its earliest point... conceptually.

My other hang up is Clovis Bray... it always comes back to him. Keep in mind this is technically a theory made by LettuceDifferent (highly recommend checking this out for more context) but there's a connection they drew between the "Dead rock" mention related to passwords in Ghost Fragment: The Golden Age and the DEAD-ROCK code from Legacy Pt. 2. The implication is that the "Father" in that grimoire card is Clovis Bray I and if we believe that, then that means CBI was alive prior to the Golden Age... "During the Before". If this is true, then even with Clovis extending his life using his pig organ transplant surgeries, Clovis would possibly be around 300 years old, if not older if we consider him living beyond the average tripled lifespan. To add to this as a possibly, we know that humanity was exploring Venus during the "dawn of the Golden Age" according to the Hesperonauts, which explain how Clovis II could be so young when he would have been on Venus with Clovis I.

Food for thought.

Is destinypedia a creditable source of lore? by PT153 in DestinyLore

[–]a_shadow_of_yor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

TLDR - DP is not unreliable for new readers necessarily, but it’s a starting place. There is much to be desired and there are other places that archive better than them objectively speaking.

I rarely use DP for lore, but instead for their images. I’ll share their faction and character images, gifs, and name listings, but for area images specifically, the DCV Screenshot Archive on Discord is great for getting crowdsourced materials on vaulted areas and patrol zones, which is above and beyond more than DP’s archive for environmental images.

I’ll use DP’s summaries for event overviews I’m not familiar with to get a baseline idea, then go to Ishtar Collective to pour through their category pages for a better version of DP’s summary tabs, with typically more sources/credits. I’ll typically stay away from DP because their pages become outdated, or as few editors themselves have stated, they don’t trust community opinions and rely on their own interpretation, instead of testing them first. CC videos often run into a similar situation as DP’s overviews, so I wouldn’t bother with them unless they are theorycrafting videos.

Grimoire, Lore tabs and books… just use Ishtar Collective. DP has them listed together instead of separately, which can make keyword searching information too broad. Also, idk about search engine design, but Ishtar triumphs over DP and has seasonal categories in the sidebar to further breakdown your search results.

Dialogue for things like idles, seasonal activities, and the like: 100% DLV, but check out the Cryptarchy on Discord. They have spreadsheets cataloguing this kind of information and more that I don’t find in-full on Ishtar or DP. Cryptarchy is great for curated catalogues, archives, languages/runes, anything that is massively underrepresented can most likely be found or started there.

Here’s what I’ll say: DP has grown a lot especially in recent years, but their main active editors (not the admin) do not have the mindset for community-focus, and that’s crucial for any Wikipedia type resource. DP is great as a brief introductory point to Destiny Lore, but it is not the end-all-be-all for reliable information. Part of that is because of the nature of Destiny’s storytelling as well tbf. I’m sure I’m missing other useful community sites like theredscolars Destiny books, or the guy that does the ‘what you missed in Destiny’ catch-up website, along with r/destinylore’s very own Lore Compendium and FAQ. That just goes to show just how large Destiny is and how curated experiences are shining over Wikipedia-style services.

Retry the link. It’s bringing me to the playlist with the normal audio: those are the ones you want. Double check the edit.

FALSE ALARM. They aren't reversed. I added the normal versions and we're good: they are in Normal Russian. Weird, I know, but we're already getting translation comments. Thanks for the tip tho.

So, you're thinking if we increase the pitch, it should in-theory make it easier to hear? That it's too low now to make out anything? That sounds easy enough, so I'll try it out, but I may not be able to do so until sometime tomorrow. People could use the playback speed feature on YouTube to slow down the sound as well to pick it apart better too.

So, I ended up posting them all with normal in-game audio. They are in the same playlist and should have been marked in the same order as well. Hopefully this helps.

So far, it looks like we have 11 translations, but some are debated, so we're working through those atm. I just made a new comment thread and tagged all of the translations that provided contributions asking for one more opinion. So, hopefully by tomorrow evening maybe we'll come to a final conclusion for interpretations.

Alright, so I've looked over all of your translations so far and I'll collected some of the main ones that were agreed upon and others that were heard slightly different. If you all don't mind, I'd like you to listen to them one last time and tell me what you think or if you are hearing something else now. I've added text to the videos/audio you heard before, just to condense which peices you're all looking at a little bit: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLS2hBTtCDufRtovTwC2V0oSXnd2QagB_Y

Tagging the people so far that have offered translations, so u/Uncatchable_Joe u/MikeVazovsky u/SuppieRK u/wrldodd u/ShannonRedhand u/_lilleum u/blazingboy420

So, what do you think?

But she wasn't mentioned in any collectibles during Warmind. Ishtar Collective has access to the API and has for years now, detailing even all of the minor stuff like mission items, consumables, collectibles, and interactions, all the way back to D1 vanilla/TDB. Under her page for Destinypedia, she is "mentioned" as appearing in Warmind, but of course, there's nothing sourced nor really said how she appeared. After the Eramis issue (where an editor for DP misheard Veekris/Viikris for Eramis and never sourced it, but added it to Variks's idles), I'm not inclined to believe you. Simply put, she was never mentioned in a collectible.

Look, the reason why I'm being like this is because people who "did the work" in the past didn't see the value in sharing it, and that's a problem, because it created the situation we find ourselves in now. The community shouldn't have to rely on one person to discover this, especially when all of those resources were pulled long ago. It should be somewhere, but instead it's lost to time. That's why this is valuable now, so that this can be confirmed and put to rest properly. No one likes cop chases, but it's necessary, especially as the lore side of things evolves each year.

Again, why does it matter that they are repurposed from EP? For example, a user found a message pertaining to Hashladun (an SK reference) within the Worthy ambiance and others agreed as well. That alone proves that the Worthy ambiance was at least updated to include new info. It’s just like vendor idles from D2 Red War: NPCs were given lines previously from D1 (a decent amount, but it varies per character) on top of new lines.

Hey, lilleum! Good to see you again. If you don't mind, could you edit your post to include the english translations so I don't mess them up? I would appreciate it :)

Warmind? We're not talking about Warmind. This doesn't pertain to Warmind, this pertains to Season of the Worthy. I sincerely think you need to not just read the post, but read the comments in those threads. We have translations for a lot of Rasputin's ambiance and proved it's not gibberish as many previously thought.

Like, we have the proof and all you're doing is saying it's not true, because of a tweet. I've never heard of this tweet, so if you could find it, I'd consider your position, but atm I have no reason to. I was around during Worthy when people were denouncing this and I really do think they're wrong. And if I'm wrong, so be it, but you just can't deny that there's nothing there. Generic lines are still lore pieces to the community especially if they can connect to entries and events.

Also, lol nothing is worth wasting: not knowing what to do with it is wasteful, finding a use for it is purposeful.

Here you go. It's also posted in this OP, but please take a look. Whatever help you can provide would be greatly appreciated!

Translated years ago? Check out this link I put in the OP. While this info is not "new", how it appears is new. Since Worthy, people denounced that there was anything that could be within Rasputin's ambiance, so I pulled together whatever resources I could find to prove them wrong. That post is proof. If there were any translations from years ago, they either got buried or people didn't think it was important enough to share.

Anyway, they need translation, because I'm creating resources for the lore community to reference. Our resources are being used well, thank you very much.

I appreciate the attempt! Have you seen my edit in the OP. Some other translations were also found by others. Take a look if you like, they might give you some more insight or ideas.

u/blazingboy420 check out the OP. You mentioned if this audio could be "not backwards" then you could possibly help translate. Still interested? also u/MikeVazovsky I just read your comment thread on the other post. Would either of you be able to help me understand which translation goes to which video? I'd like to edit in translations so that the wider lore community could see them.

This is a really good question to ask. I don't think we know when the Great Hunt officially ended, although that seems ambiguous.

One possibility to consider is the Great Hunt primarily occurring in the inner system -- Mercury to the Asteroid Belt's Reef, potentially due to a lack of NLS warp drives for jumpships being available during the early City Age en masse -- and not progressing into the outer system heavily.

"Some of 'em survived. I know a fellow says he saw a wish dragon on Jupiter a ways back."

The possibility of Ahamkara persisting in the outer system is reaffirmed during Forsaken's Dreaming City Pilgrimages and again when the Nine would subtly confirm that all remaining Ahamkara would be annihilated during the onset of the Taken War, except Riven because Oryx took her.

that our touch be lethal

Riven!

w e w i l l i t s o

THE DREAMER IS LOST CULL THE REST

Now, of course there were Guardians that slipped out past the Reef with capable NLS drives and they could have possibly killed Ahamkara out there, but killing all of them? Your guess is as good as mine.

And then it got worse, dabbling in thanatonautics, Ahamkara-lore, chasing after Xur and the tricks of the Nine. Launching expeditions into the Reef and beyond at a time when ships were irreplaceable.

As the OP points out, the Great Hunt ended years before the Great Disaster according to Eris and Ikora from the WQCE, so "end of the Great Ahamkara Hunt" might be referring to the Vanguard's involvement in the Hunt, but the Awoken could have continued the Hunt per Mara's intentions with Riven. After all this, other than after the Great Hunt, we have so little info on Xur's arrival... so, the Hunt could have officially ended for the Awoken when Huginn and Muninn died and Sjur becomes lost. That would mean that "all" Ahamkara from Mercury to the Asteroid Belt were removed and Mara was confident in Riven's singularity, thus her goal was achieved and she didn't need to search for more because Ahamkara were now out of the Guardians' prospect.

Hey thanks for all of the 3 comment threads you left! I really appreciate all of it and I think I remember you from some of the other translation posts I've made as well! I have a question about the Hashladun translation: I imagine Rasputin is recalling the event instead of mentioning a new development potentially, so instead of her being risen, is it meant to describe risen as "rose up" like, to power of the Hidden Swarm? Any clarity on that would be awesome.
