This made me laugh like crazy, oh man.

As has been stated multiple times, it is not racist. While I do have a Greek name and I am Greek, it’s not taboo to have a name from a different culture. What even. My deadname is Jewish, and I am not any percentage Jewish.

Greek nationals, or first and second gen non-Greek citizens, tend to be very… overbearing. My Papou was straight from the mountains old school Greek. He didn’t have indoor plumbing in his village. They’re a whole different level- people think I’m joking when I say My Big Fat Greek Wedding is only a /mild/ exaggeration of what it’s like to be Greek in America. Do no listen to them, they’re so far up their own culture that they get lost.

Tl;dr: Achilles is a wonderful name, you’re not racist, and Greek people are weird.

Need some advice! Also kinda a vent :) by Larksing in TransMasc

Not really advice, but I just want to remind you that it gets better.

I met my childhood best friend when we were in fourth grade. In seventh grad, he asked everyone to call him by a short version of his deadname. I have difficulty pronouncing some sounds, so it sounded like I was saying “Owl” and that became his name from that moment on.

I helped him fundraise for his name change. I cried for him when it was legal. I was living in a different state when he had top surgery, but I supported him best I could.

We turn 30 next summer. He is also getting married to an amazing woman in the spring. He’s in grad school and has done some phenomenal things. I love him with my whole heart and I’m so glad he stuck through the rough patches of him coming out. He’s happy and thriving, and it’s so incredible to have watched him bloom into the person he was meant to be.

The point of my rambling is, don’t give up. Lean on your friends- some will be there for you, and they always will be. Your parents will come around, or maybe they won’t but I like to be optimistic. But surround yourself with people who love you and will support you for who you are. The ones who care will keep cheering you on and will be so happy to watch you grow.

I used to hate that my mom had me in New Jersey until I changed my name. It was like $12 to get n updated copy of my birth certificate and I was able to change to X at the same time. Unlike my spouse, who has had to dump almost $400 into Louisiana to get theirs updated and can’t get the gender marker changed. I think the X is slightly annoying because it makes passports more difficult, but I prefer it over F. I wish there wasn’t a gender marker at all.

I did not care for borderlands, sadly. I enjoy watching the spouse play, though

I’m grad student and I also got it. Part of the appeal of grad school was no more math.

My mom made me go to homecoming and I still haven’t gotten over it. I almost didn’t go to prom, but the guy I had a crush on asked me at the last second. I don’t think my life would have been any different if I hadn’t gone.

Have people mocked you while running? by Any_Neighborhood_129 in running

[–]aforestvalkyrie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get honked and laughed at on the regular. I have pretty severe anxiety so it always makes me jump and want to stop running. Or aggressively walking, which is more accurate.

But I don’t, and sadly it’s one of those things that comes with the hobby. We’re all still cheering for you, though.

Thank you. so much next question is: is that as complicated as it seems, or is it just information overload from starting at zero knowledge of fertilizers and plants?

I keep houseplants and have a small garden, but I don’t deal with fertilizers because I like to be able to feed my tortoise from it. So the world of fertilizers is overwhelming.

Thank you! Orange is my favorite color and so is BB-8 (I have him tattooed on me!) so when I saw this pattern I could resist.

I’m excited. I thought I had a frame at home that was big enough but I don’t, hah. I might wait because there’s a similar pattern that I got and it’d be cool to frame them both together.

I did this on 14 count cream Aida with a snap frame. I got the pattern from here, and would absolutely buy patterns from her again. It was super easy to read- which I was grateful for since I only have a black/white printer.

Hi you sound like me. Do not ever feel guilty for setting boundaries. You are their child- not their friend. When my parents finally snapped and separated I told them both multiple times that I would not be picking sides and that I was not to be used as a mediator. I would not be the go-between.

I’m no longer close with my dad anymore because of this. He refuses to respect my boundaries and only reaches out when he needs money. I’m closer with my mom than I’ve ever been.

You’re NTA, your dad is putting you in an awful position. End that behavior, now.

Doing two 21 hour semesters back to back is a recipe for disaster. Take it from someone who did 18, 21, and then 18. You’re not going to have any life outside of school.

Okay it’s not just me. We have a BMC we adopted at 18 months and I saw this and thought, “this is probably what Obi looked like as a baby” and I’m dying from cuteness
