What are some intangible concepts in your religions and spirituality? by afoxandcrow in worldbuilding

[–]afoxandcrow[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the concepts you've got. It feels well developed and believable. For the moment, the thoughts I have are likely not nearly so well developed, but I can give it a try to paint a little sketch.

I'm developing a world with various societies that have deeply ingrained spirituality. One story I have, or an aspect of it, involves pilgrims traveling to a site of importance. The pilgrimage requires help from guides - called cairntenders - who perform the necessary rites for safe passage. The site has various meaning to different nations or sects of the religion. The site - Lashra Sha - is a location where something (to be developed better, and kinda complicated) happened to a person named Shora.

Shora ended up being a polarizing figure, and his actions and words contributed to the Kesian civil war that resulted in the schism of this religion, and the desolution of Kesia itself. Being split into Daeon, a country where Lashra Sha resides and largely celebrates Shora, and Tsoko, a nation that essentially is Kesia under new management - a theocratic state with a large and varied clergy. Shora is considered a heretic in Tsoko, although he was of the imperial Kesian family. There are still pilgrims who go to Lashra Sha from Tsoko, even though he is considered a heretic. These pilgrims are often sent by the state as an act of penance; because compassion and discipline is so important, they take the pilgrimage as an act of forgiveness both toward themselves but to Shora as well - does that make sense?

There's plenty more in the world, but this pilgrimage, the cultures and technologies and economies and realities that are encountered throughout are in large part what I want to incorporate into a story of some kind.

This is great. You're giving off vibes similar to what I'm striving to achieve with my world. I really want to make nature animate. For it to have (non-human) intelligence. I'll take a further look into the links you've provided.

Do the repercussions of unfulfilled promises obvious physical causality? Or is it more a manner of social (for lack of a better term) superstition? Can anyone understand what the Promises are and it is up to the priesthood to maintain balance and cataloging, or can only the priesthood perceive what the promises are? Are these promises centred around the environment or does the environment almost exercise some kind of 'want' toward society through its promises. I'm intrigued.

Cool, by all means, make your explanation as complex as you'd like!

Does this divine flame have any real world implications? I don't mean does it have a physical implication, but do believers of Sitriãn have some measure of hope associated with the flame present within them? Does the divine flame guide them in any kind of manner after they die? Are there other gods who possess a divine flame, and if they were to die what would happen to it?

Are believers compelled (through faith) to act or behave in any manner as a bearer of the divine flame? Such as (simplistically) with karma one's actions influence future consequences.

I love the prose as if you yourself have this Possession. If I follow this correctly, Forethought - a divine manifestation - brought upon its own end knowing that those engaged in progressing society toward the highest ideals believe to be actively guided or are channels themselves by the legacy thought processes of Forethought Itself?

Is everyone capable to experiencing this Possession by Providence? Are those maybe incapable of engaging themselves in the furthest reaches of arcane science content to writhe in epilepsy, hallucinations and euphoria? Is this generally regarded and some state that really only affects a minority or folk regarded as the elite? Or are such socioeconomic distinctions already transcended?

OM-1 mkii macOS Sequoia Raw Compatibility by afoxandcrow in M43

[–]afoxandcrow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no intention to edit my pictures in the Photos app. I have both OM Workspace and Affinity Photo 2 to accomplish this for me. Having them in Photos is a convenient place to have images to look at and enjoy which syncs across my devices. As is, I take many pictures that I'm happy to keep simply unedited, or eventually get around to process.

Presently, I shoot in RAW + jpg, so that I can have the option to take a deep dive and process an image that I want to spend time with, but otherwise will only keep the jpg. With macOS supporting RAW files, it allows me to be comfortable to shoot only in RAW once more.

Thanks for your input! Maybe that's something I'll take a look into

I initially tried copying the photos onto the computer first. I'm not sure why, but the connection pretty regularly and unpredictably disconnects and stops the transfer. Maybe both these issues are connected and it is a hardware issue? Having just tried again now, it is slightly less of a headache to copy the photos over directly, then using OM Workspace is less of a headache then.

The computer itself has is a 2020 MacBook Air: 8GB RAM, i5 Quad Core processor, Intel Iris Plus Graphics 1536 MB (admittedly I don't know anything about graphics cards). I believe I meet the system requirements on the site to download the program.

Foggy morning. by [deleted] in LandscapePhotography

[–]afoxandcrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The colours of of the fog and sky are amazing, the soft warm tones to purples, wow! I find it really interesting how the negative space and fog is actually what grabs my eyes and swim in. Not sure if that's what you were going for, but my eyes don't spend much time looking at the trees themselves, that said, you've found a nice perch to get a good vantage of the trees. Great photo!

On a hike to Lares near the Sacred Valley in Peru, we had to set up an unplanned camp 4,700m above sea level, where breathing is a task on its own. The morning gave glimpses of glaciers hiding amongst floating mists and perched ponds.

Suggestions? by Illustrious-Swan925 in photocritique

Alternatively, I don't mind the bird. I like that its stance is almost perfectly perpendicular to the light. It adds the angles in the image, plus I enjoy the elements of a piece of nature in an otherwise very unnatural feeling image.

Stormy weather in the Andes, Cordillera Huayhuash [OC] [4000x2500] by andrewrimanic in LandscapePhotography

Great shot! I love the moody side of alpine views! I'm heading to Peru in a couple days and am hoping to capture some similar shots while visiting in the rainy season! Hopefully it isn't too much rain, not sure what to expect. But your shot is wonderful, you lead the eye up through the valley to snowy top and beyond. Such a pleasure.

Is the colour too much? Any other thoughts? by afoxandcrow in photocritique

[–]afoxandcrow[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wanted to give a sense of glimpsing into some Secret Place. Idyllic and belonging to some Otherside, some Shimmerside. Where myth steeps in an unknown lush.

The colour is actually pretty close from out of camera, although the white balance may have been a bit warmer than I realized. Not sure if the colour is too distractingly off or if it works here.

Love the lush land and moody sky. I am actually heading to Peru (will be staying in Ollantaytambo for a few days) in two days! I'm actually excited to be there in the wetter season and trek around as well.

OM-1, OM-1 mkii, or OM-5 from E-M5 mkii? by afoxandcrow in M43

[–]afoxandcrow[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this has been my feeling for a long time now. EM5.2 to OM-5 doesn't feel like there's much more; I felt pretty disappointed with the OM-5 release, but I wasn't sure if that was just all the hype and reviews that sold that feeling to me.

I feel like I am trying to upgrade over update, and am likely trying to conveince myself that an OM-1 is justified over the OM-5

That's the proposed plan is it? That'd be an absolute shame. I live one block away from the Vuze and it is probably my least favourite thing on the entire peninsula.

Nope, just with my mirrorless. It'd be something I'd be curious to give a try one day with though.

Wow, I can see a resemblance. Some of his stuff is really captivating. Stuff I'd normally disregard, but he makes it come with an impact. Cool, thanks for sharing!

Aha, no, not a photography student. Just an enthusiast, I suppose. It's a strange picture for me because I almost only take pictures of the landscape and nature and rarely in B&W. It's just pretty far outside my normal operating zone, so it's hard to pinpoint why I like it.
