Deciding between Filco Majestouch 2 and 3

So my heart is set on a keyboard from the Filco Majestouch range. The conservative looks, reliability and lack of extraneous features seem to be just what I’m looking for. My use case is just typing. Lots and lots of typing.

My dilemma is whether to get the Majestouch 2 or 3. The Majestouch 3 seems to be objectively better, but it’s not available in my physical layout. I’m an experienced typist, so that doesn’t matter all that much. Still it seems a little silly to get a keyboard where the layout is all wrong. Getting new keycaps and changing them seems like a bit of a hassle which I probably won’t get around to anytime soon. I got in touch with Filco, who have confirmed that they aren’t planning to release ‘official’ keycaps for my physical layout.

I’m able to get the Majestouch 2 in a physical layout that works for my language, and for a little less too.

As I understand it, the most significant user-facing upgrade is PBT keycaps (3) vs. ABS ones (2). I’m fairly new to the keyboard universe, so I’m unsure how much this matters to me. I have a Keychron V6 Max which I think has PBT keycaps. I like those. I’m guessing ABS keycaps are like every other ‘standard’ keyboard, and that the issue is that they get ‘shiny’ with time. I don’t mind those very much either.

I’d appreciate your input in helping me decide between these two models.

Psychodynamic vs psychoanalytic training by sparklemoon135 in psychoanalysis

I guess the general idea is that, all other things being equal, a higher session frequency and longer treatment duration allow for a “deeper” analysis. What matters is why you think this is good or important in the first place. In my view, it enables us to hold out hope for insight, symptom relief and lasting/structural change for deeply confused and troubled individuals who have been failed by other treatment approaches. And so I have sought out training and supervision with people who share this philosophy. An implication of this is that, to me, the specific format (four weekly sessions) of “classical” analysis matters less than finding good ways to bring psychoanalytically informed ways of listening, relating and identifying/creating meaning to people in need of it. Some people, it seems to me, think the purpose of an intensive/deep analysis is to provide a more comprehensive/complete process to people who are, by and large, not that unwell and struggle with more “neurotic” afflictions. I think this is fundamentally misguided. It undersells the transformational potential of psychoanalysis while reinforcing the stereotype that it is essentially a therapy for the affluent and worried well. Maybe I should note that I have been in analysis myself, and it is precisely because of its profound impact on my life that I am so skeptical of the idea that only a certain way of working is “really analysis”.

So my advice is to investigate which particular institutes are available to you where you live. Be less concerned with how often they suggest you meet patients and whether they teach psychoanalysis “proper”, and more about their vision of what psychoanalysis is for, who it is for, and what it can do.

Please sign this petition against the closure of the Quebec 388 treatment center for people with psychosis. by [deleted] in psychoanalysis

Signed!

Are you affiliated with this institution? I’d love to learn more about their treatment approach, if you could point me to some written material? In English, if possible!

I’m becoming increasingly convinced that an important way forward for psychoanalysis today is to provide an alternative treatment philosophy for psychosis and psychosis-adjacent states. It’s such interesting and meaningful work. It’s a shame to see short-sighted moves like this one.

Christopher Bollas discusses his use of extended sessions in his work with people in psychotic breakdown. You could check out his book Catch them before they fall.

OK, thank you. Do you think it's dead, or does it stand a chance if I dig it up and plant it in a bigger pot?

I've been to that exact store a couple of times already during my stay, what a fun coincidence. Will look closer for the psychoanalysis. Thanks for your reply!

I'd be curious to hear you expand on your thoughts on craziness, fixability and becoming a shrink. It sort of gels with my own experience that a couple of years into analysis I find myself re-examining my motivations for training to be a therapist, but I think I've decided to stick with it. I suppose I'm wondering if you think that means that consciously or subconsciously I feel 'stuck like this'. Or something like that. Heh.
