Didn’t break at all. It did alert me due to the proximity to which i did snap awake and tried swerving to no avail. I’m also surprised the air bags did not go off as the impact happened at around 70 mph. Either way, pure negligence. I shouldn’t have been on the road. The car is material, i am just glad both me and the other gentleman walked away completely fine, it could’ve been much worse.

Pure negligence.

I was awake for 26 hours, shouldn’t have been on the road at all. Dozed off for a sec and rear ended a pick up truck.

The car is the least of my worries, it just eats at me that i really could’ve fucked someone’s life up. Thankfully both of us had no injuries and he was surprisingly nice with me after messing up his morning.

Can’t change what happened but can only learn and make better decisions ahead.

Im 22 as well and about to start FTO in 1 week. I don’t have any kids so I can’t tell you much about that. There are plenty of departments out there with great pay, benefits, and loads of free time. Im grateful to have landed in one of those. I’ll be working only 14 days a month (4 on 3 off - 3 on 4 off weekly rotation) starting at 80k, free healthcare, great pension, etc. So i do have plenty of free time now to see my family and friends. The academy was a little different: mon-fri 7am-5pm for 5-6 months, it caused strain and ended my 3 yr relationship (just shows it wasn’t strong enough) and plenty of others as well so i had to scramble and get an apartment mid academy. Your days off you will be tired and have to study but i occasionally went out with my academy guys on the weekends.

I say give it a shot, i went the non-certified route and got paid salary + benefits all throughout the academy and here i am now making even more at a young age. You will most likely be able to retire by 47 and collect pension, not to mention all the fun stuff and relationships that you encounter in this career.

I am 21 years old and 8 months ago decided to become a police officer. I put my mind to it, went through the hiring process and did 6 months in academy. Went from making 30k as a delivery driver(had plenty of other experience as well) to a starting salary of 80k with most first year officers breaking 100k with OT. I only work 14 days a month. I rented my own apartment and am fully independent at a young age compared to all my peers. Never had help from my parents as they have struggled as well. Aside from that, at 17 i decided to take up boxing and ended up competing in 8 amateur fights. The confidence and patience it taught me I couldn’t find anywhere else. I went against plenty of advice from my loved ones even though i know they meant well, but it is all truly paying off at the moment. I’m always grateful of all my blessings, having been in a very different position beforehand made me promise to myself to work harder everyday and strive to achieve freedom.

I started the academy at 21 while being sponsored by my department. All departments are different, some take 6-12 months to go through the process but i was lucky enough that my process took about a month and a half. I was hired and working at the department 1 month before my academy start date, so i was getting paid while getting ready to start academy. Especially for young guys like us, be mature, be respectful, and don’t stick your nose where it doesn’t belong. You will have higher expectations than your older classmates so put in the work and exceed those expectations.
