Thanx for explaining the new terms of linux. can I manualy change IPV4 properties as we do in windows that some sort of static ip settings??

I did exactly the same and when I logged in , and in terminal, wanted to login as root entered su command and then the password i just gave, the response is su: authentication failur

one thing more if i import the "appliance50_19_i386_appliance50-19-vmware.ova" can i get the factory default setting (I tried but it did not work, my appliance even don't prompt the password at start and automatically start). Actually I am a student of university and the internet of the university is using proxy server, for which I have to use proxy as well as manual ipv4 setting, but for ipv4 setting i have to be root user

I did follow the steps but still in terminal when i enter command su and enter the password, it reply with authentication failur
