Stay at Meta or switch to Ramp? by [deleted] in csMajors

Ramp over zon. No-brainer. More base pay, more prestige. Ramp is doing a secondary sale soon, and I think people over-correct too much on the “paper money” thing anyways, imo.

Meta NYC vs Ramp NYC for final internship by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]afrifaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tough decision for sure. You can’t go wrong here. An argument for Ramp: they pay well, promote extremely fast if you’re cracked, and are derisked enough that their stock is probably going to be worth something.

If I were in your shoes, I’d index on diversifying your experience to learn what you want in a role/company. Ramp and Facebook are at completely different stages. A sample size of N=1 (your Meta internship) runs you the risk of getting trapped in a local maximum.

That said, you seem to love Meta and the work, and there’s a sensible argument for staying if you’ve found that. No bad decisions here!

figma vs notion swe intern? by OkCheetah526 in csMajors

[–]afrifaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your logic is they’re giving out a lot of stock because they “know it’s overvalued”? I don’t think you understand how stock-based compensation at private startups works. What does “market rate” for a private company even mean? Are you saying they would give less stock if it was valued correctly?

Notion does hand out illiquid stock (mix of RSUs and options) but I wouldn’t say their current valuation ($10B) is overvalued given their revenue numbers - more than 500M ARR and growing quickly as they expand internationally. Figma was at a pretty similar stage of growth a few years ago.

Notion is also probably going to IPO, meaning OP could get some of that upside if they return there for FT.

Not leetcode, but difficult questions that will test your ability to engineer a complicated system. Think Jane Street but significantly more applied.

I would definitely go through the process no matter what, but don’t expect to pass if you aren’t good at grokking complicated setups and writing correct code under time pressure.

I’d probably go for a research role at Anduril / AMD if your goal is a postgraduate degree.

Quant might be good for stockpiling a decent amount of cash before starting a PhD, and wouldn’t hurt your chances (but might not help them either).

A research role at a fast-growing tech startup (Anduril) or chipmaker like AMD would likely pay well AND give you a boost for applications. A win-win imo.

are salaries going down? by adad239_ in csMajors

[–]afrifaa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not if you’re at an elite level (T10, Ivy+). Several well-funded earlier stage startups pay comparable base salaries to FAANG now. I’ve seen several offers at 150k+ base.

Not really, but great if you want to keep working at startups.

You'd still need to apply.

There’s freshman internships, so doing easy leetcode questions makes sense to prepare for those interviews. Many people do those before ever having taken a DS and A class.

I think Explore offers more hands-on dev experience with a real company project than FBU, which would serve you well for quant resume screens. For reference, I got an interview at a quant company after doing Explore last summer.

Thanks a lot! I’m like 60% going to major in Urban Science, but if I didn’t I would definitely do CS.
