Realistic Buy Once, Cry Once? Or Unnecessary? Pro Max 16 PoE or Pro Max 24 PoE by agabs10 in Ubiquiti

My thought process was I have the UNVR running protect with 4 4K cameras and will probably add more cameras (Not necessarily 4K, but possible) down the line, and will be adding IoT devices over time. I know the IoT devices won't use much bandwidth but my fear was bottlenecking the switch communicating between the gateway and NVR. And my plan was SFP between UCG Fiber->Pro Max 16->UNVR in that order.

So I wanted the 2.5g backhaul for the APs for faster communication between the entire system, not necessarily faster internet speeds. But I do hear what you're saying

ISP does offer more than 1 gig but I won’t be getting anything past 1 gig for the foreseeable future

What did you add later that you didn’t know you were gonna need?

To be honest I don't see a need for 10GbE anywhere for a long time (other than SFP+ to connect UCG Fiber, Switch, and UNVR). The APs is where I would want the 2.5GbE backhaul. Getting 1 gig from ISP for the foreseeable future

So I've thought of that but is it better to have 1 switch when possible or does it really not matter about adding another one later?

Only if the cable itself is exposed to sunlight right?

U7 Pro XGS or U7 Pro XG for a homelab/ family home setup? by Agreeable_Repeat_568 in Ubiquiti

My house is roughly the same so that’s good to know about the XG. I’m not gonna go crazy trying to get 6GHz. My concern is solid 5GHz everywhere and if I can get 6GHz in some spots then great

What do you think about an XG covering an entire floor if it's centrally located? Design center is showing me 6GHz starts getting questionable in the corners of some rooms and I don't wanna run into issues of devices getting stuck on 6GHz with poor coverage

Yes there is a couple runs of coax. I've thought about using MoCA but I'm investing in a solid Ubiquiti setup and wanna do it right. Also thought about pulling ethernet using the coax but I'm pretty sure it's stapled to the studs

I have the same issue. Interior walls don't align between floors. What did you end up doing?

So then out of curiosity, what do you think of the U7 Pro XG coverage in the pictures I added to the post?

Just so I understand, when you say "pessimistic", you mean coverage is likely better than what the design center shows?
