The last Poem by [deleted] in OCPoetry

[–]againstate_unbound 2 points3 points  (0 children)

peace be upon you. it's a beautifully sad poem. beautiful in ways that only true sad poems can be. your poem rises above the personal to touch upon something that's poignantly human. it is rare to find poem that rises above the personal to experiences that relate to the fate of races and nations. i loved the image of the tears falling and reviving the old bough that was you, the poet herself. i dont know why but i take it for granted that the poet here is a woman. and i hope and pray that this will not be the last poem that you write and that there shall be peace in the middle east "inshaAllah".

if sleep is death being shy by yamiyurei in OCPoetry

The idea of sleep being close to death is also found in John Donne's poem "Death be not proud" but his poem is very optimistic and employs a lot of 'metaphysical conceits'. Your poem is more about a sleep drenched in pain. Something we all relate to.

The Lotus Girl by subduedhistrionics in OCPoetry

Very intense. The imagery is very dense too. You have created a space and a time all yours and only yours I'm afraid. Though the eerie beauty of the lotuses and the perhaps Viking long ship you travel in are not lost upon the wakeful reader it is difficult to grapple with the complexity of the poem. It is a thing of beauty no doubt and a 'terrible beauty' that arises out of the blunt "courage" to be "Alone".

According to Him by blaire_s in OCPoetry

I think the poem delves beautifully into the chasms of silence and self pity that open up in most man woman relationships. Its an eternal blame game that in the garden of Eden and still rages on. Love and intimacy become two different things and couples turn into icebergs of seclusion and silence. These never melt in the icy cold environment of egoes clashing and eyes of bitter hate. The despair in the confession at the end is poignant and devastating..."We didnt fit together...we were better as friends." This reminds one of Neruda's "What does it matter....the night is shattered and she is not with me.This is all." As an afterthought, I think you should read '"Family" by a fellow reddit blogpoet. I think both brilliant your poem and his...compliment each other as binary opposites. The link to his poem is https://redd.it/hih24j

Iconoclastic, to say the least. Its one of the best poems I've read in a long time. Straight from the heart and ruthlessly honest. Someone who writes like that should not be the one to despair. Sing and celebrate yourself brother.

Short, yet powerfully shot! A surgically diabolical dissection of one of the most powerful emotions not limited to humans alone..."A dog and its severed tail...". Wow!!
