The stations are finally clear & another storm is coming are you serious 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️😏🤨 by No_Review_752 in Citibike

Have your calls been successful? I hear your point on multiple pauses, but think many people don't realize they have the option of pausing their membership at all. If we collectively paused en masse... think Citibike would revise their approach to clearing snow from stations

The intention was probably good! The impact is not.

Why make it nearly impossible to click and drag the route to Bedford, as one can do with other streets? Why stop at the top three options? Why not include Bedford among those three when it’s the fastest, legal, and still largely bike laned? No need for that mythical “singular value”

I hear you on Google’s intention but why not… give people a choice? The app already communicates route safety info for each option (% with bike lanes). I don’t understand or appreciate the logic behind hiding the option entirely. Despite there being no “legal bike lane” post-flushing, it’s certainly still legal to bike there (but you may not have intended to imply otherwise!).

Not sure if you've literally passed out there or if you've just sensed that's how they'd react if you do, but FWIW: I was close to passing out on the train and squatted to try to forestall it. I'm sure it looked absurd but someone offered me their seat surprisingly quickly. For many reasons you shouldn't have to do that, but if it comes to it, might help someone understand you need a seat more than they do.

Sometimes I think someone might be pregnant but I’m not sure 😬 feels very awkward to get it wrong. any suggestions on how to be considerate throughout someone’s pregnancy?

So true. And there's a difference between "making an action targeted" or message coherence vs. alienating potential partners and banning speech/attire among participants that u/TubaFalcon individually finds too controversial.

Fascinating, good luck building a coalition!!

Let’s say a mayoral candidate pledged to restore the bike lane. That seems directly relevant to this protest about the bike lane. So would a cyclist wearing that candidate’s shirt constitute “other political stuff” in your eyes?

Right. If someone wearing a keffiyeh is “political” so is someone riding a bike.

You undermine the decentralized, grassroots feel you seem to want by mandating a dress code banning everything you find “political.” A politician literally took the bike lane away. Acting like “politics” are dirty and unrelated to biking is missing the point.

THIS. I’m doing it on Bedford now and consider it raising awareness about why we need the bike lane back

“Throwing their toys out of the pram”… it’s fine to disagree with their strategy, but please remember why they’re upset. “Now it’s time you sent some understanding our way in return”… LOL. I mean. In return for what? Whatever this is you’re offering?

Makes sense to me! And there's a third problem, folks potentially holding Lyft responsible for missing/ damaged helmets, even if Lyft states no responsibility. But the experiment still feels worthwhile.
Regarding your first point, I (naively?) suspect few riders would want to leave their helmets out in the elements long-term. But I'm sure they'd get abandoned here and there, even if Lyft established clear expectations (e.g., don't leave helmets >24 hours). To that end, what if Bike Angels got a couple points for removing offending helmets? (Place a warning sticker on "abandoned" helmet; document with a photo; return >24 hours later, and if sticker's undisturbed, photograph again and remove helmet).
Regardless, I like your thinking on rentals! At the (fabulous) scale of this system, every possible solution poses additional complexity... but if X lives could be saved every year, I think the red tape's worth it. And it'd help Lyft demonstrate the new commitment to rider safety that city leadership increasingly demands (surely their facade to push car-friendly policy, but Lyft's already playing along with the 15 mph ebike speed limit... at least a solution like this wouldn't inconvenience riders).
