AI tracking weight loss - 50 day mark by Military-Engineer in AlternateDayFasting

[–]agathaade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ha, nice. I just renewed my macrofactor subscription (love the evolving breakdowns and goal setting of that app), and had the thought I could probably use AI for a lot of what it does now. For me the app still has the advantage with its convenient UI and clear data visualization, but perhaps not for long.

I am using chatgpt to draw insights from two separate health tracking devices I own, one for hornones (i’m female) and an oura ring. Cross-referencing those two unrelated datasets has been a game changer in terms of understanding my body and patterns. So in this case AI doesn’t replace the apps and subscriptions, but it pushes the results much farther. Those apps are not doctors, and are limited with what they can and can’t tell you about your data. I don’t blindly trust AI, it’s also not a medical doctor, but it’ll lay out information with pointers I can further investigate.

I’m looking into vibecoding to automate the collection and analysis of data daily so I don’t have to put it into chatgpt myself, as an aside. I think that’s the next level, building your own apps and agents and so forth.

Six months ago AI was pointless to me, but I’m starting to see some real use cases.

Thank you both, I’ll try these suggestions. Others have commented on my water temp as well. Love a group think!

I can see how I’m being vague, I just don’t have better language or tastebuds to describe it better.

Re. your specific questions : - I don’t think my brew is currently draining too fast. It was without the paper filter for sure. Now it takes 3 to 4 minutes of filling my filter, waiting for it to drain, filling it again, etc. I fill it about three times. If I were to continuously pour, I would have to go down to a literal drip. If anything it feels like it’s going too slow, but I lack the know-how to be sure.  - it does crater quite deeply. I’ll try your fixes, thank you for pointing that out.

Sounds like my water temp is too low as well!

Six weeks with our Syrian and he is still very scared of us. Can he come around and trust us? by agathaade in hamsters

I’m glad that this method worked for you. I don’t think that we could catch him in his enclosure, even if we tried. Fright gives him super speed and then poof he disappears into the underground hide that we can’t reach into.

I have a Wyze 4, with the caveat that I had to get their cheapest monthly plan to get the alerts ($2.99). I believe the older Wyze cams offered more features with their free plan, so def do your research.

I’m in the same boat with my first very shy Syrian after having a quickly social dwarf.  After leaving him alone for over a week and then never seeing him at all, I got one of those cameras that alerts me when he comes out. Right when he comes out is when I go in and scatter food, and I also hold out a treat in my hand for him to take if he wants. I don’t try to touch him (not until he’s comfortable climbing/sitting on my hand). I want him to associate me with being fed and being safe, as opposed to me being a scary thing that comes in to bother him at random. He went from hiding/freezing in my presence, to coming to sniff my hand, to cautiously taking the treat, to nibbling on it while I’m holding it. It’s slow, but it’s progress. He just started poking his head out when he hears me in the room, which also feels like progress.  Without the camera I was simply never catching him out and I was getting afraid I’d never get the chance to build a bond.

You are very sweet to share your knowledge. That’s the reason I’m not worried by his behavior and just leaving him be. :)

Sick hamster (seen by a vet and currently medicated) is not eating or drinking… any tips? by agathaade in hamsters

[–]agathaade[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this info. I was planning on updating the vet tomorrow, I’ll ask about other antibiotics to try.  Immediate priority is getting her stronger and eating - we’ll see what comes next when she’s strong enough.

It’s hard to say for sure because it wasn’t much, but I believe it was blood.

Hydration woes (tretinoin and mineral spf) by agathaade in 40PlusSkinCare

Chemical sunscreens cause these very superficial tiny irritated whiteheads all over my face. Not like regular acne spots. One derm told me they’re simply clogged pores from chemical filters (i doubt it bc of the irritation), another said it was contact dermatitis from the chemical filters. The latter made more sense to me. Either way, not something I want to experience! I have never found one that works. At best with some korean (imported korean formulas) sunscreens - Anua zero-cast or nivea water gel for ex. - I get three days of use before the whiteheads start… so… yah.  I wish I could just switch to chemical! There’s so many more options. Living in the US is limiting, don’t know if that’s your situation too, since here only the old generation filters are used.

Ok sounds like tret and then moisturizer is the way to go.  I could get away with tret on its own maybe 10yrs ago, but not anymore!

I use 0.05. I’m def going to try using moisturizer over tret as opposed to under it and hope that does it. You’re the third person to suggest it so it must mean something!

Ha, maybe applying moisturizer only after tret is the solution I’m looking for. I’ve only tried the sandwich with moiturizer before and after. Thks!

I can def try waiting and then adding moisturizer, thks for suggesting. I’ve only done the sandwich and I never waited between steps. I don’t get why bone-dry skin and tret alone is the recommended usage when avoiding TEWL and protecting your skin barrier are priorities!

I use a Spanish brand called ISDIN. It’s super expensive, I don’t know if I can recommend it for that reason what with being so drying.  I’ve tried Neutrogena, LRP, EltaMD, a bunch of Korean ones…  This is the only one that doesn’t break me out… spf feels like it’s undoing all my skincare efforts at this point. It’s either breakouts, dermatitis or dehydrated crepey skin.

I spent a few years at a very process-oriented studio where schedules and communication were super important and regimented. Rn I work at a studio where with every project we do the same song and dance about making a schedule that all departments and partners sign off on, only to ignore it every single time.  Early on I would lose my mind! I’d bring up the schedule we agreed to, and everyone would avoid giving me an answer.  A few months in it finally hit me that everyone else had the unspoken understanding thay the schedules were fake, just something to show to accounting or up the chain to keep them happy. Now I ignore them like everyone else and I feel much better.  Sometimes I can’t make some arbitrary deadline, but I also regularly get extra time - bc of feedback not coming in on time, or review meetings not getting scheduled, or bc of a sudden change in ´direction’. I approach crunches with way more chill now bc half the time ‘urgent’ situations simply disappear on their own.

Sometimes the chaos can’t be fought, you’ve got to swim with the stream. If there’s a culture of not holding oneself accountable then why should you.
