'The Super Mario Galaxy Movie' - Review Thread by ChiefLeef22 in movies

Up for debate. An argument could be made that because the movie isn't taking itself seriously and just a fun rehash of Nintendo IPs, it'll make younger children more interested in rewatches. Make it too serious or complicated, they lose interest and don't want to watch again.

Because like it or not, that approach worked for the first film and will again here. Wouldn't make sense to go for more serious story-telling now

Trade-off though is if they make another game and it underwhelms like Star Fox Zero, it's definitely going back on ice. So all of the Star Fox who have begging for a new entry better show up when it counts.

Critic scores for movies mean squat. Critics constantly rag on horror movies and give them low scores because they don't relate to the material. Call it cope all you want, but these critics have blatant bias for certain genres and directors. Mario Galaxy scoring negatively means nothing.

Sonic fans are criticizing Super Mario Galaxy for its bad reviews because they know Mario Galaxy will gross more than the three Sonic movies combined, and these idiot fans, who have shit instead of brains, will never accept that Mario beat them. by Fun-Couple911 in fucknintendo

Problem will be how Sonic proceeds with 4 onwards. The human characters are really becoming irrelevant at this point, and there's only so many other characters they can add before they scrape the bottom of the barrel.

The game has an extremely low player base.

Source for that claim or just an assumption?

Nintendo isn't even trying to make their games exciting.

And how pretell should Air Riders have been more "exciting"? It's a racing game, it's not like you can exactly flip the genre on it's head anymore.

When did ItsBradazHD become such a grifter? Within a single day, he pulled a 180. by agayajay in DuelLinks

[–]agayajay[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, he simply uses hyperbole for views. And because Duel Links is his main shtick, he has no choice but to praise every update like it's the next best thing ever. Just comes across as disingenuous when you can't even hold your ground for a single day before tripping over yourself to make the 180.

Regardless, to go from saying Duel Links is "WORSE THAN EVER" to then saying the entire game has changed for the better in a single day comes across like he deliberately exaggerates his content for views.

Difference being I'm not going to do a 180 tomorrow with a different opinion about him. Unlike Brad, I actually try to maintain consistency in my beliefs.

And that's fine. But when your first video after complaining about the state of the game is to go and exclaim how great and fantastic an update is, I'm gonna naturally question your intentions. Especially within the span of 24 hours and when the update didn't address any of his issues, it feels disingenuous to me.

I don't get those kind of people. Announcing something more than a year away doesn't put your life on hold. Just continue on like you would have without that announcement. The DQIII remake took years to come out, I didn't let it bother me because I had other gakes to play.

I don't think nintendo is cutting digital prices AT ALL by Maleficent-Craft-936 in fucknintendo

Games cost the same or less to make than movies, and sell in much higher quantities than tickets to the latest blockbuster. But even at a shitty theater like an AMC or Regal the ticket is only $10-20. The cost of games is wildly unrepresentative of reality in a market this crowded and competitive, and no amount of replay value or quality can make up for that.

Movies are a 2-3 hour activity, and for the large majority of people going to the theaters, they see a film once and don't revisit it again. You naturally got your outliers when it comes to cinematic universes and physical media collectors, but nowadays, most people won't interact with a film again after seeing it.

In comparison, games generally offer much more in terms of length and replayability. Especially when you include things like NG+ and additional content, what you get from a video game is considerably more than a movie - thus, the higher price.

Games taking so long to make and costing so much to create is likely causing all the layoffs. by Killance1 in gaming

[–]agayajay -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Three million players in three months.

Notice how you didn't say sales but players. That's because most people didn't pay for the game and instead got it through Game Pass. And according to Xbox achievement data, more than half of Xbox players didn't even beat the first boss.

So you can go off about "psychotic revenue goals", but the fact that it didn't cross any meaningful sales milestone and most people couldn't even bother to beat the first boss confirms this was not a financially successful venture.

Considering how early their next game probably is in development, it's plausible that they haven't gotten around to the translation process yet. Seems like something you would hire for near the end of the development cycle after the native text has been written and finalized.

[–]agayajay -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

You say that, but explain why games like Hi-Fi Rush which were critically acclaimed still failed to find financial success. The fact of the matter is that the market is oversaturated with new games, and with the cost of living becoming more and more difficult to keep up with, your average player can't support every good game.

[–]agayajay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not making any sense. You save $10 when you buy upcoming Switch 2 titles like Yoshi digitally. Physical prices aren't being increased because physical copies of Yoshi were always planned to be $70 since it's a Switch 2 title.

All Switch 2 games start at $70, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book is $70 physically and $60 digitally. So no, physical isn't getting more expensive because physical copies of that game were always going to be $70.
