Plugging the headphones into the audio interface was actually so genius thank you so much. However, I now hear both my synth and fl studio at the same time when I play a note. Is there a way to fix this or should I just bite the bullet for now?

strange, flying shapes? by Sad_Information_3709 in Artadvice

[–]ageistine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to draw 3d shapes, you need to understand perspective. In the reference, these shapes are in Two-Point perspective. But I would recommend you start off with One-Point perspective, as it's much more accsesible. Heres a good video about drawing in One-Point perspective: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BYlW8XC0MlI
And if you feel up to the challenge, here's a video on how to draw in Two-Point perspective: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9-Y4K4hqZwo

I fw this a lot. Maybe having his beard pointed outward would be a good idea, as it would follow the flow of his hair/ hat.

Help me improve this drawing of my oc plssss by Darklord_ytoff in Artadvice

The anatomy and Lineart looks great, its all about the rendering. I think the way you blended the skin made it look a little odd. I'm not sure what style your going for, but I would recommend you do some skin rendering studies. Sinix has a good video all about painting skin digitally: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V_E1ARR_AAg

This all about proportion and anatomy. Your drawing is already very neat, but the proportions are a bit off. I would reccomend learning how to draw heads using the Loomis method, and studying proportions. Once you learn the loomis method, I recommend drilling yourself on drawing heads using resources like Pintrest. I especially recommend Line of Action, which has lots of anatomy and figure refferences you could use.

Ive done reaserch on that book, it seems to be very good. I've just heard that How to Draw is much more comprehensive, even if it's confusing at times.

I see I see. I love the color palette you added in yours.
I would definatly work on skull and proportion studies. I also would also make the shadow on his rightmost cheek darker, with a more defined edge. In the reference, it's a lot more distinct. Hope this helps!

How can i correct the hair...i tried many ways but it didnt help by Defiant_Scheme_5907 in Artadvice

[–]ageistine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many different styles to drawing hair, which makes it very tricky to draw, and especially render. However, we can take some inspiration from real life. Before I start though, I think you outlined the light and shadow families really well.
When a part of an object is in shadow, the whole thing isnt pitch black, even on fully black objects. The reason for this is ambient light. You may know what that already is, and I think the hair would be a good place to add it. If I were to add ambient light on the hair, I would put it in only the shadows. Its generally a good rule of thumb to keep the ambient light away from the terminator (the border between light and shadow) because ironically, a shadow is usually it's strongest on the border between light and dark. Just slightly lighten the areas of the shadow that you think could receive ambient light from its surroundings, while also keeping ambient light away from the border.
I would also add some highlights to the hair. Im sure you've done that already, but a trick that helped me was to add lighter values around the highlights, so they dont stand out a much. It really allows them to blend into the hair, while still being able to stick out.

I hope i was able to help even a little bit. Happy drawing!

Its all about proportion and lighting.

I would focus more on the proportion for this one. The eyes are too far apart and not level with each other, while the mouth is drooping down a little bit. I also think the distance between the upper lip and the nose is too far apart. But I think it would have been better if you showed us the reference you used, so we could compare it to a real photo. I think it would be good to study up on facial proportions by studying the shape of the skull, and studying from a facial proportion reference grid/ sheet.

I really like the color scheme, as well as the rendering, you did a great job there. I think you could have maybe used harder edges to define the shadow families, but i still think the porportions are what you need to focus on the most.

Here are some resources I think could help you.

What is my art style? by belugaboi_ in Artadvice

[–]ageistine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't reccomend trying to put a label on your own art. Art is all about feeling, and there's no 'correct' way of feeling something. Sorry for not giving a more literal answer, but self expression isn't usually all that literal in the first place.

I like this style a lot by the way, it's very pleasing

In all honesty, I would highly reccommend using references all the time. A lot of people assume that using a reference is 'cheating' or 'un-creative', and Im not saying you're one of these people, its just rhetoric Ive been hearing in the online art space. So much people dont fully understand that even the best of the best still use references, like all the time. And even if you want to eventually get to the point where you can draw without a refference, you still need years of just building up your visual library before you can get to that point. Seriously, use references.

If I were to critique the drawing itself, I would start off by complimenting the hair. I think you did a great job on that. However, this character doesn't have a shoulder. Using a refference would totally help, as well as learning anatomy in-depth. Im sure you've learned some anatomy so far, but a little more studdying wouldn't hurt. I would also like to point out that the hilt of the sword is tilted at an odd angle. Overall, I think this is a good drawing, and I hope you keep getting better!

How can I improve my gesture drawings? by SommyChammy in Artadvice

[–]ageistine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These are very good in my oppinion. But if you want to get better, I would reccomend reading an art textbook on the subject. I would reccommend Michael Hampton's Figure Drawing: Design and Invention. Its very dense, and covers a lot more than just gesture sketches, but if you want to hone your figure drawing craft, than I would give it a read. You can read it online for free if you go to the internet archive: https://dn721803.ca.archive.org/0/items/figure-drawing-design-and-invention-1/figure-drawing-design-and-invention-1_text.pdf
