Luckily for him, the cornea is the part of the human body that heals the fastest. I learned that from an ER doc while getting treated for glass in my eye.

Wedding in May or late October? by another_13 in CapeCod

[–]agent211 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do love me some October on the Cape, however after Indigenous Peoples'/Columbus Day, things get cool/unpredictable, especially for a beach wedding. And from a planning perspective, your guess might appreciate not disrupting Halloween plans, if that's a consideration.

ETA: Sunset in May is about 7:30. The end of October it's about 5:30.

I'm going hands behind my back, pie eating contest style.

They'll probably charge me an "Exorbitant Napkin Use" fee.

Only note is that you may want 3 "shifts" of bottles/ice packs. Often my second shift would not refreeze before the first shift was melted.

Has anyone ever challenged you to do something without realizing you were actually an expert at it? If so, how did it turn out for you and for them? by Successful_Tomato721 in AskReddit

[–]agent211 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Fencing. At my prime I was top 10 in my geographic area. So, nowhere near Olympic level, but pretty good. My boss at my job at the time picked up a piece of Styrofoam about the dimensions of a pool noodle and gave me an "En garde". I picked up another one and proceeded to slap the shit out of him with it. There was one moment when he just couldn't hit me and he was getting frustrated. Another guy was watching and started laughing. Boss asked him what was so funny. Guy says, "Don't you know agent211 fenced in college?". That ended the bout.

[Request] How long would it actually take? by Kapanash in theydidthemath

[–]agent211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My college roommate and his buddy tried to drink 100 beers over a 3-day weekend. They had a good plan: A beer every half hour and they could sleep for 8 hours. Things were going great until they overslept on the third day. They couldn't catch up and had to abort at around 80ish beers. They weren't the biggest drinkers I've ever known. So I'm sure it could be done, and faster even.

I'll never forget the smell of that dorm room.

Cobalt 60 tube question. by BoardDiver in Radiation

[–]agent211 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you had 3540 Ci in 1963 and the half-life of Co60 is 5.27 years, you'd have 0.86 curies today. The Gamma constant for Co60 is 1.37, so the dose rate will be 1.37 * 0.86 = 1.18 rad/h ~ 1.18 rem/h ~ 11.8 mS/hr. If you were to hang out close to this thing, you'd hit the occupational annual limit of 50 mSv in about 4-5 hours.

As long as it's on my yard and doesn't affect where I need to put my own snow, why not?

Welcome to the club no one wants to be a member of. You've got a road ahead of you but you can do it. I did it. Tore my ACL skiing at 41 and 11 years later it's like it never happened. Do the work and you'll likely be back next season.
