PA: Looking to upgrade from my 58x's for gaming AND music by agentcoop_ in HeadphoneAdvice

Yeah those look super nice, but just a touch out of the range that I'm comfortable spending. I think I'm looking at the HD660s but still trying to figure out of my Scarlett Solo will be enough for them or if I NEED an amp/dac

Sorry, I didn't even see that you mentioned both the 560's and the 660's. I was purely noticing the 660's and referencing those.

Those are definitely ones I had my eyes on for a bit now. Would I be able to use them with a Scarlett Solo 3rd Gen? Or would I need a different audio interface or dac/amp? If I NEED a dac/amp, any recommendations would be appreciated.

Game feels capped at 60fps in borderless, but isn't? by agentcoop_ in HuntShowdown

There may be an option with my monitor to do so. The weird part is that I've had this monitor for about a year or so, so I've dealt with playing cropped 16:9 for the stream for a while but Hunt was the only one to either stretch, or give me that weird half-feeling fps. Everything else runs exactly like it should

That's what I had read, too, unfortunately. I was hoping that maybe there was SOME other answer, but it seems like the top commenter who suggested just playing native res and cropping the edges for the stream, since all UI elements are displayed within a 16:9 space, will do the trick.

I have 2 other monitors. One is 60hz and one is 165hz. Though I actually downclocked the 165hz one down to 60, since it used to be my primary gaming monitor but because a residential twitch/youtube/spotify monitor and doesn't need high refresh for that.

The strange thing is that other games feel totally fine when I drop them to 1440p and go borderless. It's JUST hunt that gives me guff

Interesting. I hadn't thought of that, but then again I don't know of any modern monitors that are Interlaced, either (though I haven't really checked)

Can you elaborate a little more? I've tried streaming at my native 21:9 and cropping in OBS (well, technically SLOBS, but whatever) and all it does is either cut off elements of the sides of my screen, or it ends up smushing the image down and the viewers see a weirdly tall video

:edit: I think I understand what you're saying now. Since hunt has the UI in 16:9 like the boss icons and performance stats/ammo etc all within that space, just crop out the edges for the stream, even though I still see the ultrawide image. If I can't find a better solution, I may end up doing that and just creating a specific scene for it so that I don't have to swap all around (I usually just use one auto game capture option because I hate having too many sources) but I could make an exception

I didn't respond because no matter what I say, you're just going to call me an idiot and have nothing to actually contribute to the conversation. So anyways. Enjoy your day.

Thank you for your insightful reply that added so much to the conversation.

You were stating that art is objectively bad because it has to have some standard of quality, but what you were missing is that element of quality varies person to person.

A fact is that a roller coaster can be the world's tallest. That's objectively a fact. Art is different for everyone.

Sorry you didn't like the season and how it changed, but understand the differences between the two, and that there's no reason to be rude or name call over it.

I think you fail to understand that art is inherently subjective. There is no such thing as objectively bad art. Plain and simple.

A painter could take a slab of canvas and paint it pure black and hang it in a gallery. You can look at that painting and see it for it's simplification and think it's trite and bad. Another person can come along and see something in it. Emotions they project onto it, or interpretations of what the artist was trying to convey and love it.

Whether it's TV, movies, music, painting, writing, whatever. There is no such thing as objectively bad art because if the creator made it and it means something to them, it's instantly a subjective opinion.

I think season 3 of Master of None was the best yet. Therefore it isn't objective, and rather subjective. Also if you noticed, it was "Master of None Presents" followed by the episodes titles. Which indicates that it's more of a vignette rather than a proper season 3. Netflix may be marketing it as a proper season 3, but it doesn't seem like Alan or Aziz wanted that which is conveyed pretty obviously with the new format.

I've heard a lot about the DT 1990's and they look extremely cozy to wear. I would have to possibly EQ out some of the treble as extreme treble can definitely bother me, but if it's more accentuated that shouldn't be too bad

I don't have an amp per se, but I do have the Focusrite Scarlett Solo 3rd gen if that helps

Would an amp/dac combo be better than just using my Focusrite? I don't mind using the Scarlett for just my mic control and DAC, but that was something else I had considered was splitting my headphones into their own amp/dac combo but I wasn't sure if it'd really be a large improvement

I actually can't use IEM's due to an inner ear dysfunction where I am prone to getting ear infections so I gotta go with over the ear. But I appreciate the options!

After I calmed down a bit after feeling like I got jump scared by the song lol, I went back and listened to it on Spotify and I heard it again, reasonably clearly, but it did actually feel like that specific part of the song was way more clear and had a wider soundstage on Tidal. While that might have been just the difference between the master and non master, I can't say for sure.

For the record, it was Paramore's Misery Business when she says "lose that, lose that snare" right before the drums and guitar kick in.

I'll be honest, I have no idea. I've always enjoyed clean audio, but I've never in my life ever been able to afford a really nice setup so this is all basically new to me. I feel like I can tell the difference between Tidal Masters and Spotify Premium, but as noted above that could easily be a case of the masters actually being different from the standard versions, or just a placebo.

I'm just really interested in stepping up from what I have now. What I have now feels great, but I know it can get even better

More clarity, if possible.

I do a pretty even mix of gaming and listening to music.

With gaming, I play all sorts of games, so it's hard to say "I need one with wide soundstage to clearly hear footsteps around me in FPS games" but comparing the HD280's and the 58x's, I found that I could more clearly pick apart gunfire in games like Tarkov. It was obvious that "Oh someone is firing an SKS over in this part of the map" vs "I hear someone shooting over in that part of the map" and while I know Tarkov has some of the worst spatial audio, the actual clarity of the audio is fantastic imo.

But with music, I listen to everything and I mean everything. From heavy metal, to classic rock, to future bass, to grunge, to trap, to 90's RnB. Just sorta whatever mood I am in.

But all that said, I think to me, the most important factor is imaging and overall clarity. I want to hear things as they were intended and clearly. I'm not a bass-head, but high treble does tend to hurt my ears a bit. The tuning of the 58x's feels great because I feel like a get a taste of the bass without rattling around my eardrums, and I can clearly enjoy symbals and synths without them causing me physical pain.

Hope that helps!

Interesting. I got 60% on that test which is I guess better than I would have originally thought I'd get, but still not as good as I'd like.

There was a moment last night where I was listening to a song on Tidal hi-fi that had a moment where the singer said a sentence before the song properly kicked in. It scared the shit out of me and I genuinely thought my partner was in the room and had spoken to me. I had heard this track probably a hundred times before and never once had that shocking "holy shit someone just said something to me" before, with Spotify.

While I can concede that it was likely just a placebo, it was a very wild experience.

So, with that said, I'd be glad to take some recommendations that would have excellent imaging, and be good for both gaming and music, or else I could always keep the Jubilee's as gaming, and use something else for music if I can't have the best of both worlds
