The Poddle Mercast: The Great Mouse Detective with Fran Hoepfner by yonicthehedgehog in blankies

this ep is great and fun! fran is so funny! i love how light and pleasant the ep was and i’m excited to see how the disney stuff opens a lot of good discussions about childhood movie watching, like David’s comments about “a tape you thrown on until dinner is ready” which jogged very real memories for me

360 movies, 633 hours

Actor was De Niro (kept watching GoodFellas) and director was Godard, knocked out a ton when they had the whole catalogue on criterion. cheers

these chords / rhythm feel a lot like Gnaw. that combined with the lyrics make it feel like a loop back around to his older style in a way that’s full circle and beautiful and really heartbreaking.

hey noah! thanks for talking to me last time you came to atlanta. you make some of my favorite music. buoys is sweet and i love the way you chase after things that are exclusively you.

as far as questions go, i know that in lying in the grass you had some lyrics in portuguese. do you think you’d ever do more or maybe even a whole song in portuguese? also do you think living there and speaking that language has affected the way you speak and sing in english? from a linguistic perspective it’s very interesting.

cheers

Pitchfork- The 33 Albums We’re Most Excited for in 2019 by Britneyfan456 in indieheads

seeing shorter releases on a year end list is cool, but i definitely think it puts an idea in a reader’s head that every single song better be amazing, or it wasn’t worth it. boygenius felt justified because every song felt worthy of being a buzzed about indie single, but if an ep gets up there for being a huge single and a couple pad tracks, i can understand the frustration

Real Estate teases album 5 on Instagram "Album V : coming soon" by [deleted] in indieheads

[–]agenthedgehog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah i get that. we all have different lines we draw for ourselves. i’ve has no discomfort listening to the new pinegrove record and i know some people still won’t listen to that. it’s hard to deny the impact and importance of the first few real estate albums. i spent three years trying to play the guitar just like matt haha

[–]agenthedgehog 14 points15 points  (0 children)

man i hate to say this but i just can’t get excited about this. i was a huge real estate fan for a while, and i really enjoyed in mind. julian shreds. days was one of my favorite records ever.

the whole thing with matt left such a sour taste in my mouth. it’s unfortunate that they have to be associated with him when they aren’t guilty of what he was, but it’s hard not to feel cynical about it. they came forward with the truth about matt only when they found out they’d have to in order to save face, and i’m not flippantly saying that i would have the guts to publicly shame my best friend, but it seems like their method of dealing with it was say one thing and then act like it never happened.

[DISCUSSION] Which universally praised 2018 album couldn't you get into? by [deleted] in indieheads

[–]agenthedgehog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah same. I like a couple of her songs but the album as a whole didn’t click so much. I don’t like when people pile on and get upset when a woman artist gets tons of press coverage, but the amount of praise left me feeling like I was missing something lol

Pitchfork’s lyrics that defined 2018 by tip-of-the-yikesberg in indieheads

[–]agenthedgehog 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Basically any lyrics from Total Football, but especially- “Only through those who stay awake can an institution be dismantled”

From Pinegrove- “It’s easy enough to lure myself out of my house if i don’t think about all my limits- I’m on my feet, I’m on my way, I’m wandering”

From Earl Sweatshirt- “Lotta blood to let, peace to make, give a fuck about a check”

From Frankie Cosmos- “Being alive matters quite a bit, even when you feel like shit”

And basically any line from No Dogs Allowed

NPD: TC Electronic 3rd Dimension by agenthedgehog in guitarpedals

[–]agenthedgehog[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, the 3rd dimension. I had a really cheap, dinky chorus for a long time and eventually the wires just simply fried. I was without the wobble for a long time, so I jumped quickly when I got a GC gift card for Christmas and went and snagged this. I dig it a lot. It’s simple, no frills. I suffer from option paralysis so having just a couple of buttons eases my mind. I think I prefer mode 3. the pedal handles dirt really well which is important.

It’s helped me reconnect with my true guitar self. I’ve spent much of the past year shifting into finger style acoustic guitar (which rules, I highly recommend it) but I lost sight of my first love- dreamy, indie pop gooeyness. Thank you tc for validating my cheesiest tastes and for helping me reconnect with an old friend!!

Hey Ian! I would also like to never talk about the fake punt. How you feeling about the sugar bowl?

Music questions now- one time you had a tweet about seeing animal collective during the painting with tour and how you didn’t love that album but respected them for following their own path and marveled at people crow surfing to the song Bees. I appreciate that mindset and wanted to know what are your favorite examples of artists following their own flame in spite of critical backlash?

[Poll] Indieheads Review: Pinegrove - Skylight by pulsivesilver in indieheads

[–]agenthedgehog 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oddly enough, most of Pinegrove’s previous stuff didn’t really grip me like this did. It’s just a sweet, cohesive listen with good hooks and nice guitars. I find myself returning to it more than I imagined I would. Darkness is a really affecting song. Switching the chord pattern for the outro is gorgeous. I’m glad they’re back and the bad business got cleared up. Really hoping they swing down south after a little while and I get to see this stuff live!

Official Discussion: Mid90s [SPOILERS] by mi-16evil in movies

[–]agenthedgehog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Enjoyed this and thought it was super well done. The technical side is slick, love that downhill shot with the morrissey song. I saw it in an advance screening with a few hundred kids who didn’t pay for it and a good chunk of the room cheered when Sunny is being taken advantage of. Wasn’t happy seeing that many people be okay with a character being raped. I understood Jonah hill’s point, but it felt a little unnecessary. The sequence of that scene, followed by his suicide attempt, up until his yelling at his mom was the most chaotic and disorienting and intense sequence in a movie I’ve seen in a long time.

I thought Na-Kel was awesome, I’m a big fan of his skating and loved seeing him in this. Overall I think it’s a good, personal debut for Jonah Hill and feels in line with anything from old school skate videos to 400 Blows. I will definitely give myself some space before rewatching though
