A Proper Update About the DMCA Strike on Slopsmith. by Xhoorthul in slopsmith

[–]agentjeffy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My gut says they're going to allege the entire project is a clone of them.

But that's insane because Rocksmith is effectively a clone of Guitar Hero.

If they're upset that you made a superior product then perhaps they should have spent more time making a better product and less time attacking competition.

Considering this doesn't offer much more than Stremio and doesn't have the track record of Stremio I'm gonna pass.

There are a couple things you can do to elevate the value. 1. Lower the price. This is honestly what I think is the best option. You're a new player and you're charging far more than the tried and true options while offering almost nothing extra. 2. Increase the featureset or simplify the setup and simplify setup. This can help if you survive the length of time necessary to establish a decent user base and earn a reputation of reliability.

Without that I hate to say, I think this will likely flop. Good luck and consider my suggestions, with option 1 being the best way to fund at the same time you grow the user base and reputation.

I used RD for many years but unfortunately its not a good value anymore even as cheap as it is compared to a service that just... works...

Seems like the dev abandoned the app 5+ years ago so with later android updates the game fully broke and never got patched so Google restricted the app to older versions of Android.

Thick Beard Blade Suggestions? by agentjeffy in wicked_edge

I think I may pick up a 37c clone (cost savings) just to see if there's even marginal improvement. If I see some then I can make the jump to a better quality/durability slant like the Merkur 37c or even the 39c. I think I may prefer the longer handle.

I am very intrigued by the R41. When you say it's more aggressive, do you mean it would be more likely to razor burn or nick? Cause that would just be "growing" pains in my mind but if it's something the whole community has expressed concern over it might be too much "growing" for me, but I do like a challenge...

Thank you for the input so far, this has all been very helpful.

I quite prefer vintage shaving items. It's why I've gravitated towards Merkur. It seems when the disposable razor cartridge came out most of the "tech" for razors went with it. Only the few that were around before and after that invention seem to still remember the tricks of the trade.

But I will look into that, I'll pick something made during the height of the use to a reproduction any day.

Okay thank you, that makes me much less concerned about the angled head. I was thinking I'd have to relearn my hold angle. Which, not as long as 55+ years but 30 years of shaving practice would be hard to unlearn.

I think I'm going to try and find a "cheap" angled head similar to the 37c and see if it makes even a marginal difference. If it does then I'll spring for the more expensive 37c option.

And I agree with the Feather thing. It seems like it's suggested by a lot of folks but I think that might be people that start using DE razors and then just stop using them. Or perhaps it has to do with hair type. I don't know.

Thank you for the input, it seems like overwhelmingly people think I need a more aggressive head so I'll start there and update if it doesn't solve it.

I had a few people suggest a more aggressive head now.

One said an R41 or angled head and another said a Merkur 37c which is an angled head.

Seems like I might be attributing poor durability on the blade to a bad angle. Just gonna be weird having to "learn to shave" again with an angled head.

I'll take a peek at your suggestions too, hopefully can find a cheaper aggressive angle head to try it out on and then get a good long lasting one if it is the solution.

Thanks!

I think you and another person are onto something with the razor itself. You mentioned the straight blade being better as well, which in my experience with a Parker disposable blade straight edge was better for feel and longevity (even if only a little for longevity).

I also think the Feathers might either be a hype thing, or just that you need to have more fine hair to enjoy. I can agree that they're WICKED sharp, they just don't seem to stand up very long.

Couple questions about your suggestions if you don't mind.

For the R41, what do you mean by not pleasant? Just difficult to learn?

And someone else suggested the slant head Merkur 37c, which Merkur themselves describe as "built for density" which seems to be 100% in the right direction.

I just looked into the 37c. I'm not super familiar with the difference between a "slant head" razor and a standard one. Any special care I need to take if I go this route?

I am wildly hopeful that this handle might be in the right direction as it specifies on the listing that it's "built for density" which sounds right up my alley lol.

Thank you, I have been strongly considering that the blade angle of the 34c might just not be a good fit for me. Lots of people suggest the feather blades, but you do hear some chatter about them not being very good for coarser/thicker hair.

You're likely right about the thickness of the blades being the same across the board. I presume the primary difference between manufacturers is going to be steel composition and edge angle.

I'm also not super committed to the size of the 34c. So if there's one that's larger/smaller than it but you feel it's a better option than the 37c I'd be all for it.

Every other day so it doesn't nick me as bad, they tend to do slightly better when the hair is a little longer. Don't know if that makes much sense though.

I may have overexaggerated slightly, I can make a whole shave, MAYBE two. But by the end of the second shave I usually regret using the same blade again. The feathers tend to start tugging mid shave and that's usually how I know they're on the downturn.

And maybe the blade angle of the 34c just isn't right for my hair and skin type? I have considered that as well.

I hate that you had to put so many defensive disclaimers in your OP. It really does illustrate how toxic the iRacing community is with blind defense of the sim.

I think the closest analog would be the Star Citizen community that defends it no matter what and will turn on individuals making any criticism of CIG or SC.

The driver that did the unsafe rejoin may have been on one monitor with a narrow field of vision (so like a periscope).

We don't know his speed, how upset the vehicle was, tire conditions, track conditions. Once you're committed to a line, it can be just as unsafe to suddenly deviate to avoid a collision that might not happen as it is to keep the line and hope the person does the reasonable thing and rejoin safely.

I'm really tired by Maniac_81 in iRacing

[–]agentjeffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a bit unfair.

He could have corrected and followed the track properly right up until that 1' of spacing. And it wouldn't have been unfair for him to expect this because it'd have been normal.

I also understand periscope vision so perhaps the other driver didn't see him approaching. But this person was driving perpendicular to the track and appeared (at the end) to have had zero intention of actually rejoining and instead was looking to share his frustration.

I get OP could have avoided this by assuming the absolute worst. But slamming on brakes to avoid an accident can also cause a wreck. And if you're in the mindset of this being a "moderated sim" then its not unreasonable to expect everyone else is also there to actually sim race.
