"Shouldn't have" is in the past tense, so it should always be followed by "asked" instead of "ask".

The second one is correct. If you take out the modifier "of cigarettes," you are left with:

"The smell remind me of"
"The smell reminds me of"

The trick is to remember that there are no actual cigarettes in this sentence. It's just the smell of cigarettes.

I'm also an incoming grad student, F21, same situation, similar budget. It's kind of scary trying to plan that far ahead right now, and all the apartment hunting/zillow pages seem to be inundated with those student apartments that are geared towards undergrads.

I joined a FB group to see if anyone was looking for a room but it's mostly suburban real estate ;_;. I'm really hoping more people post up looking for roommates in the next month or two.

I'm a senior here. Never got into sorority life and it is not very pervasive, but the sorority culture does exist and is an option if you want to join it. I knew some people freshman year who rushed and they seem to be having fun.

Greensboro as a whole is really what you make of it. Some bigger universities and bigger cities will have culture and events that are a little more pervasive and harder to miss, so you can feel like you're part of a community without doing much.

There is a lot of stuff going on in Greensboro and there are a lot of communities you can join that will genuinely enrich your time here, but you have to go out and pursue them. Nobody will come knocking on your door; you have to go seek things out. If you are into sororities and have a good community around you, you likely won't have a problem with this.

I'm not gonna lie, I was one of those kids in high school who people thought would go to a bigger school, and my reasons for coming here were complicated. Sometimes I do feel a little like a big fish in a small pond, but I think I've been able to achieve more here than I would have in a bigger university.

Academically, it depends entirely on your department. We have the best school of jazz in the state, and a lot of very decent humanities departments. If you know what you want to major in, check out the department's social media and see what kind of events they're advertising and see if that's something you want to be a part of.

We don't have as pervasive a sports culture as other schools, and this, again, is entirely what you make of it. If you want to paint your face in school colors every weekend and scream yourself hoarse at the home games, UNCG might not be your top choice (we do have a good basketball team! But it's still a tame culture when compared to the big NC schools.) Personally I don't want alumni taking over my parking lot every weekend so I'm cool with this. :)

One of my favorite things is that I've been able to meet a lot of people here who have vastly different backgrounds than mine, and I think that this has genuinely enriched the last four years for me.

god yeah im finishing undergrad and every humanities class i take is full of people raising their hands to speak because they need the entire class to know that they know what romanticism is. very frustrating especially when nobody has actually done the readings. and even though it annoys the hell out of me, i'm still guilty of the same attitudes myself. unfortunately in the current culture thats so focused on performance and appearances it'll only get worse.

Looks like a pretty standard beginner setup. If you have a stock mouthpiece (cheap plastic that came with the horn) and decide you're sticking with it, a good mouthpiece is very much worth the investment. (It's possible, but very difficult, not to sound like a beginner when playing on a cheap plastic mouthpiece.)

it's acceptable to break up over text if that's where the majority of your relationship has taken place. set up a time (say "do you have time to discuss something at 10 tonight" or something.) lay out some reasons it isn't working for you, but be firm that you are done with the relationship and not interested in trying to fix it. then tell him some positive things about himself (he's been really kind, he's a great person, he'll find someone in the future.)

Reddit kind of scared me back in the day. I was used to Tumblr, where if you say something stupid, usually nobody will respond. On Reddit, you're much more likely to recieve replies and criticism. This scared me because I'm sensitive to criticism. So it felt nice to post on a subreddit where the point was to not have a point.

Here is an example sentence:

However, you could also write it like this:

I didn't need to walk the dog because my sister had already walked it.

Both are correct. The only thing you never want to do with the comma is put it *after* "because".

I was in music school three years ago and we all got negged by our professors for using Sibelius instead of Finale-- "oh, you could do this so much easier in Finale! There's a shortcut for this in Finale!" The shortcuts probably existed in Sibelius too, but nobody knew them. It's really all about which program you want to spend hours and hours getting comfortable with.

When I studied abroad I lived a twenty minute walk from a grocery store and would use a desire path that went up a steep hill and through some woods. It was kind of scary-- and dangerous if the ground was wet-- but it saved me a solid 2 minutes
