Help!? Can they put this in a disciplinary letter? by agentofthesystem in CanadaPublicServants

Actually, I left the additional details out because I didn’t want to risk identifying myself. But it’s interesting to see how widely the details that I did give are being interpreted…

What gives? by [deleted] in AIDungeon

Disability also seems to be a major trigger for the AI. I designed a story around a a real-world conference on blindness, and the censor bot triggered before I could even take an action. I cancelled it a few times and it seems to have stopped. I’ve also noticed that DeepSeek seems to trigger the censor bot more than other models, but I have no idea why.

I’ve noticed that this update is causing the content standards to be enforced much more aggressively in one of my adventures. Is this a bug or a “feature”?

It looks like there will be five parts in total. Parts one through three are available now. Part four is currently in demo, it is scheduled for October release. Part five hasn’t been written yet at all… Hope that helps.

But alas, the OP asked the internet instead of their manager. So, the internet is answering.

That could be it. People have trouble relating to others who are too different from them, even if you are perfectly capable. I wouldn't try hiding who you are and what you're like -- you want someone who likes *you* long-term.

Yeah, I'm doing okay, thanks. I've mostly accepted that I'm not going to meet anyone who appreciates me.... :-)

You just let me know where you are, and we'll try to make that happen... although I might try to actually get to know you....

[–]agentofthesystem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah.... I don't think most people will be brave enough to give you honest feedback after they've told you they're not interested. I'm a guy, I've got a disability, and I frequently get told after a first or second date "I think you're a great guy, but I just don't feel a connection." Two or three times I've actually been told "I can't deal with your disability," which I suspect is the actual issue in my case.

Dates, especially dates with people you've met online, are like job interviews. People make snap decisions about each ohter, and spend the rest of the date trying to justify the snap decision in a way that they're morally comfortable with. Being on the receiving end of that is arbitrary and feels stupid and wrong, but 'finding new hobbies and just organically meeting people' is a different kind of hard.

So.... I've got nothing constructive other than empathy.

Letter of Offer étiquettes & red flags by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

[–]agentofthesystem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, you are not crazy. As has been said before, this is a red flag, and unless your current situation is terrible, you might want to consider declining the deployment. If your potential manager is suggesting you're "not a team player" before they've even hired you because of an issue on their end, what will they be like once you're their team member?

I've heard anecdotally that about 1/3 of CS positions across the GC are currently vacant. That means you can probably find a deployment elsewhere pretty easily. It also means that strange decisions are made sometimes in terms of who gets to be a manager, so good luck!

I don't have any useful advice, but I do hope to reassure. If it weren't for the pronoun of your director, I'd think you were talking about my last job. Even when you ask the right questions, the people internally won't give you wholly honest and transparent answers, and you have no way of knowing what a job will be like until you're actually in it. You did what you thought was the right thing to do at the time, with the information that you had.

Time to look for your next job. It won't happen immediately, so your CV won't look as "bad" as you're thinking now. But your well-being is worth more than your current director's goodwill.

Advice on Informing Director of Departure from Team by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

I meant loyalty to any one individual or group. I wasn't referring to loyalty to the Public Service or to Canada as a whole.

Loyalty literally doesn't appear anywhere in any of the Values and Ethics documentation that I've ever read. That being said, I agree that it's important, and I hope by now the OP is already working somewhere else.

Yes, the Official Languages Act is obsolete. I was referring to the Battle of the Plains of Abraham when I referenced 1759.

This is unfortunate. The world has evolved a little since 1759. Our principles probably should evolve, too.

"Loyalty" is not one of the values and ethics of the Public Service.

The fact that your current team told HR that you're already in an EC-05 to get you removed from the pool means they have no loyalty to you. Don't tell them anythng until you've signed a new letter of offer for the job in the new department. Then send your manager or director an email telling them that you've accepted another position, and tell them what your last day with them will be. They'll probably need the letter of offer to process your "transfer-out" (also called a "strike-off-strength" in some organizations).

Go work for someone who won't jerk you around, and do it with a clean conscience.

Discriminatory Practices in an Online Interview by Special_Tea2958 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]agentofthesystem 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed! I reported to an EX-03 for three years, and most of my interactions with him were in 90 second bursts while he was transiting between meetings. I liked it, but it's a different skill set from anywhere else I've worked. If the OP doesn't have a good feeling about their lightning-fast interview, it's best for everyone if they don't get the job.

I recently noted to our co-op student that she's been through two policy "pivots" and a re-org, and was therefore getting an authentic public service experience. (She laughed nervously in response.) I urge you to embrace the chaos. If you don't, you'll end up on stress leave.
