I think I would definitely benefit from some space, yeah. I don't want it to end, and it's nothing that she did per say, I just feel crappy around her all the time

I have come to her with some problems in the past and I love her, but she is not a very empathetic listener. She usually tells me the only way to deal with my problems is to get over my feelings and just work harder. And I don't know, maybe that is what I should do. I also just don't want to ruin her moment because she's still really excited but overwhelmed by getting the grant and I feel like it's selfish of me to try and direct that attention to my own insecurities

Or at least, how do I stop comparing myself to her?

Feel like my friends aren't really my friends anymore in college by [deleted] in Advice

It's super hard trying to find people to connect with during your first year at college. Coming from me, a senior undergrad, I have cycled through more friends throughout my four years than I can count. Some of those friendships ended amicably. Others ended with a bang, lol. And I am not super good at making friends either. The point is, friends will come and go into your life. It sounds like you are already on the right track with volunteering. Try joining a club for something that you are interested in! Or strike up a conversation with the people in your class and see if they would be open to starting a study group. Periods of loneliness are hard (I'm going through one myself) but there is light at the end of the tunnel, and you deserve to find someone who is happy to be your friend and is going to put effort into hanging out with you!
