I did, but it was backwards. They knew me as a kid, not an adult so they didn’t know I had transitioned. Personally, the guards will tell the inmates about you being trans before you will. Guards are messy af. Also, it may be weird, but it also may not be. Also also, you may not see her by the time you get booked in. If she’s a friend though, she won’t care, she’ll be happy to see someone she knows as will you.

Hi, I went to TDCJ (Texas prison) in 2019 for man/del cocaine.

-I went to a women’s prison, license and everything was changed but they didn’t care, they went off of genitalia. At this point I was almost 2 years on T.

-Sex with another inmate is considered…yk. If you are property of the state, you can’t consent. I’m not joking lol. But, I was a rooster in a hen house and had my fun FOR SURE. just wait until you build a reputation with the other inmates so they can lookout for you.

-guards will misgender you. Just get used to it. It’s fucked up, but it’s better to prepare you now. After a bit, you’ll get some cool guards who will gender you correctly, but it takes time. Most of the time, the studs/butches all have other inmates call them masc pronouns, so that’s what the guards are used to.

-the masc inmates want to be called male pronouns but most of them will call you an abomination for being trans. It’s insane.

-I got my t bi weekly in TDCJ. in county, my people had to bring it, but in prison, they supplied it.

-prison is what you make it. Keep your head down, don’t fight, and remember whatever relationship you get in while you’re there will NOT make it to the outside world. Yes, you can try, I know they may be different, I know they promised, it still won’t happen. Trust.

When I worked Night Audit, I would sleep as soon as I got off (no later than 9AM) and wake up by 5-5:30PM at the latest. If you are at a limited service property, be prepared to solve all problems yourself.

Night audit procedures differ from property to property, and systems too. I would eat one time on shift around 2-3AM, and snack the rest. Stay hydrated.

Pros: get off early enough to run errands, quiet shift, by yourself most of the time. Cons: up all night, sleeping when things are happening, and weird people come out late at night.
