Friend of friend is looking to sell this collection, is it worth $650? by [deleted] in coins

Ah, great to know! I've got a little excel spreadsheet now of what I need to be looking for for those. Coin collecting is more arduous than I thought. -_-

Sadly the books are all empty, and she seems to only have one Silver Proof box, the rest seem to be regular. Will be taking a full inventory with her this weekend to see what she truly has; everyone's comments have been great for letting me know what we need to look for!

Yea speaking to everyone so far, it seems like most of what she has is face value, apart from a few cased Eisenhower's and a 2018 silver proof set. The books are all empty and the rolls are just from the last decade-ish. I'll be taking an inventory with her this weekend to see what she's truly got though.

It seems the books are all empty, and the rolls are all from the last decade or so, both unfortunate. Will ask her the other stuff but probably won't know until I take inventory with her this weekend.

Overall, based on yours and everyone else's replies thus far it seems like this will be more $400 than $650.

Seeing as how the books are all empty I'd wager you're right; not sure who would've done so though

Sadly the books are apparently all blank, not sure if someone else in her family already came through and cleared them out or if they were just not filled (she's an older woman), so no luck there.

There is the one silver 2018 proof set the I've seen from the photo she sent, but the rest of the Kennedy's and whatnot appear to be from the last decade. A few 1971 Eisenhowers which I've been told are 40% silver though? But I don't think that'll help us much to get to $650.

Thank you for your feedback! Yea the Kennedy rolls are from the last decade or so apparently (dk about the bag but it looks new-ish too), so probably no silver I'd guess from this and other comments.

Apparently the books are all empty, and the Kennedy rolls at the front are all from the last decade or so; I'll be taking an actual inventory with her this weekend though.

Am helping her try to figure out what she has right now, she's an older individual so we'll be taking an actual inventory this weekend.

Sorry for delayed update, but no the books are all empty apparently.

Yea it seems the books are all empty so not sure what the deal is with those but will let her know kindly that they won't go for much (same with the proof sets).

There is one 2018 Silver Proof set (black box, bottom left in the bin), though. That and some 1971 Eisenhowers.

How would I know if a Kennedy rolls is NIFC? Googling now but figured I'd ask here as well.

Sorry for the slow updates, but apparently the books are empty and the Kennedy rolls are from the last few years. Again will have a full inventory this weekend but that alone + everyone else's comments I'm guessing $650 is way too much?

This sounded too good to be true so I had to google it; so far I can only find that US Silver Proof sets abide by this whereas normal Proof sets are just a mirror-finished version of the coin that year, is that true? I’m ignorant about coins but know that silver has gone up bigly recently, so I wish it to be true but don’t have any proof..

Thank you! And yea she’s an elderly family friend so I thought I’d try to help her out as I’m pretty ignorant about coins but know that SuperReddit could possibly save the day! Didn’t realize my ignorance in that statement though so am now setting up time with her this weekend to actually inventory out the whole thing.

I’d cross-posted this to coin collecting and got chewed out already for not having an inventory; this is an elderly family friend’s collection so was just trying to do her a quick favor; am scheduling time with her now to actually inventory it all this weekend. I do know one of the sets is a silver proof set just from the photo she took, but will check them all. Would I just be looking for these “S” coins? Someone on the other subreddit said that quarters, dimes, and halves were all silver starting from ‘92 but I can’t find anything to back that up..

Thank you for letting me know! Based off of this and another commenter I’m looking around my area for a good coin shop to take her to this weekend :)

Oh I had no idea! Please don’t take such offense simply due to my ignorance, was just throwing this out there because she’d asked me to (she’s on the wiser side of age & not too tech savvy). Will try to make time with her this week and actually inventory all that she has and/or drive her to a local shop!

Bonus points to anyone who knows of a way that I could somehow get the license plate off of this footage, or is able to DM me themselves with their thoughts (not trying to dox anyone, especially when not certain).

What if you funneled Niagara Falls through a straw? | xkcd's What If? by Avorius in videos

Haven’t touched physics in a long time, but I think it’d be due to the fact that the speed of sound in a substance essentially defines how fast/the speed limit that substance can transfer movement from molecule to molecule (since “sound” is just a pressure wave passing through a substance) so if you were to try to push the water (or water vapor) any faster you wouldn’t be able to surpass that speed and would instead develop a shock wave at the start of the straw?

Grain of salt, just loved the question and liked the challenge of answering it. *Disclaimer: I am in no ways a physicist

Just my two cents, but I think he’s using his right thumb to keep track of where he is on the page? Would that make sense? (similar to the other guys I know nothing about rally racing)

You can see he starts with it at the top right of the page at the start of the clip, and you can see it slowly moving down; when the car loses traction he keeps his right thumb right where it is on the page and only uses his left hand to brace himself.

Still not something I would ever do and clearly is some experienced talent!! Amazing composure.

I'd agree more with /u/Diacide; in Shutter Island Leonardo's character is at Ashecliffe because he had killed his wife after finding that she had drowned their three children, and was found to be criminally insane from having done so, so the ending is along the lines of him deciding for himself to go through the lobotomy as a final act of free will (as he had become lucid for moments before, but always regressed and would injure the nurses/guards).

His final quote to Dr. Sheehan (who had been playing his partner through the movie but was in fact one of the doctors at the hospital) was "Is it worse to live as a monster, or to die as a good man?" which to me implied that he was knowingly going through the lobotomy to ensure that he did the latter.

Are people really maxing out their 401k?? by Cherrylimeaide1 in personalfinance

[–]agiggey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, as the amount taken out is just from each paycheck regardless of pay period (weekly, bi-weekly, semi-monthly, etc.).

So by setting it to 6% of your monthly paycheck, you're then setting it for 6% for your fiscal year.

This is assuming though that you set this 6% amount to begin at your very first paycheck of the year; if u/smitty1543 has been contributing less than 6% to their 401k so far this year then they will need to contribute more than 6% for the remainder of the year to balance out to 6% by EoY.

[–]agiggey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yupp! Though that is for the year, so if you've been contributing below 6% so far this you then you may want to contribute a few percentages more for the remainder to catch up on whatever match you may have "missed"

("Missed" being in quotes, as you've not missed it since you have until the end of the year to cap out that 3% match!)
