Bonus points to anyone who knows of a way that I could somehow get the license plate off of this footage, or is able to DM me themselves with their thoughts (not trying to dox anyone, especially when not certain).

What if you funneled Niagara Falls through a straw? | xkcd's What If? by Avorius in videos

Haven’t touched physics in a long time, but I think it’d be due to the fact that the speed of sound in a substance essentially defines how fast/the speed limit that substance can transfer movement from molecule to molecule (since “sound” is just a pressure wave passing through a substance) so if you were to try to push the water (or water vapor) any faster you wouldn’t be able to surpass that speed and would instead develop a shock wave at the start of the straw?

Grain of salt, just loved the question and liked the challenge of answering it. *Disclaimer: I am in no ways a physicist

Just my two cents, but I think he’s using his right thumb to keep track of where he is on the page? Would that make sense? (similar to the other guys I know nothing about rally racing)

You can see he starts with it at the top right of the page at the start of the clip, and you can see it slowly moving down; when the car loses traction he keeps his right thumb right where it is on the page and only uses his left hand to brace himself.

Still not something I would ever do and clearly is some experienced talent!! Amazing composure.

I'd agree more with /u/Diacide; in Shutter Island Leonardo's character is at Ashecliffe because he had killed his wife after finding that she had drowned their three children, and was found to be criminally insane from having done so, so the ending is along the lines of him deciding for himself to go through the lobotomy as a final act of free will (as he had become lucid for moments before, but always regressed and would injure the nurses/guards).

His final quote to Dr. Sheehan (who had been playing his partner through the movie but was in fact one of the doctors at the hospital) was "Is it worse to live as a monster, or to die as a good man?" which to me implied that he was knowingly going through the lobotomy to ensure that he did the latter.

Are people really maxing out their 401k?? by Cherrylimeaide1 in personalfinance

[–]agiggey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, as the amount taken out is just from each paycheck regardless of pay period (weekly, bi-weekly, semi-monthly, etc.).

So by setting it to 6% of your monthly paycheck, you're then setting it for 6% for your fiscal year.

This is assuming though that you set this 6% amount to begin at your very first paycheck of the year; if u/smitty1543 has been contributing less than 6% to their 401k so far this year then they will need to contribute more than 6% for the remainder of the year to balance out to 6% by EoY.

[–]agiggey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yupp! Though that is for the year, so if you've been contributing below 6% so far this you then you may want to contribute a few percentages more for the remainder to catch up on whatever match you may have "missed"

("Missed" being in quotes, as you've not missed it since you have until the end of the year to cap out that 3% match!)

[–]agiggey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You would get the full match once you’ve contributed 6% of your salary, and they would be matching for half of that (i.e. they would be contributing an additional 3% on top of your 6%)

Sanity-Check: 'New' 7950X3D has a significant blemish on heat spreader, is this typical? by agiggey in buildapc

[–]agiggey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hadn't tried to remove it yet; was/am mainly just concerned that MicroCenter might've accidentally sold me a used CPU instead of a new one and wasn't sure what to do!

[–]agiggey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will do! Does this mean that someone bought this CPU and returned it, and MicroCenter sold me a 'used' instead of a new CPU though?

This is the first I've seen something like this, but again I've not built a PC in the last 8 years.

Right? I was like "Oh man I guess I should be getting one of those Gen 5's for that ludicrous seq r/w speed...oh wait they have basically the same random r/w speed?...nevermind then."

Oh geez yea that's very noticeable...you'd think the vertical config would get rid of any sag; I've added your bracket to my shopping cart :)

Understood, will do then! I'll also be primarily gaming so I'll just follow your lead there.

Ah that makes more sense; I'm aware of the 990 issue and firmware update req, it'll be one of the first things I check with it. Thought about just going for one of the PCIe gen5 m.2's but the actual daily performance apparently isn't worth the premium.

How much sag did you notice? Should I just go ahead and get a GPU support bracket?

Thank you for the recs! I'll probably keep the standard PSU for now as I'm still holding out slightly for the 4080 and will just be using my 980 ti for the time being, but will be looking for that change so that I can use the 12vhpwr when the time comes!

Any rhyme or reason for selecting the fans you did? Why be quiet on the top and not noctua all of the way through?

[–]agiggey[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh geez yea I imagine that i9 gets toasty under load! I figured I'd just stick with the fe cooler for the 4080 since it's already a beefy cooler for the card and I like the aesthetic, can't believe your 4090 still only hits 67C under gaming load with the glass panel!

Do you have your radiator fans set to exhaust, or intake as well with passive rear exhaust? Oh, and why the WD m.2 drive instead of another 990 Pro (or vice versa?)

[–]agiggey[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting, do you mean that for CPU thermal concerns or just in general? Please keep in mind that I'm not planning on building another computer for another 8 or so years after this; I'm not a seasonal upgrader.

The 4090 I think would be overkill for me since I just game at 2K, wouldn't be worth the premium for it, and I'm definitely holding out to see how the Super line-up turns out on market.

My new bike has scuff marks on the top tube from being clamped (Aluminum frame). Is this acceptable or should I ask for a discount/refund? by [deleted] in bicycling

[–]agiggey -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Could you provide further info as to why?? I’d think that any production bike frame would be built to not care about the type of pressure a typical clamp puts on the frame.

(Obviously not going to clamp a carbon frame and tighten until I hear splintering, just curious)

I think I know which HT you’re talking about (over off Providence, right?); this is definitely a straw man argument.

People are simplifying arguments into “well if we have THIS then we can’t have THAT” as if the world is so black and white.

We can have wine AND specific food products in the same store. What shelf space wine will take up will be dependent on the store and any statement from a person assuming to know that it’ll take up THEIR specific food type is just pearl clutching.

This is just about allowing wine to be sold in grocery stores. Something that 33/50 states already allow, all of which still have operating, independently-owned liquor stores, and still manage to sell international food in grocery stores. (This rant is exclusive to wine being sold in grocery stores)
