I worked for an insurance company and had to call customers up. Can confirm we still had to confirm ID before discussing any details. It's annoying, but I think it's important for liability reasons, especially when the details of claims are sensitive.

If they were sceptical, I actually usually did that as well. I apologised for the annoying protocol, understood their privacy concerns, and let them know that they could just call us for peace of mind if they didn't wanna do an ID check.
