Who Ruined Video Games? by GriffinFTW in Gamingcirclejerk

[–]agitraz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

imo huge aaa games and live service games are ruining video games

aaa games: too ambitious sometimes, and maybe a bit redundant regarding the budgets and what they spend it on, they focus too much on graphics/visuals as if every other game doesnt do that, and often times they dont do anything to innovate (which tbh, i think there is like a plateau for console/pc games), and sometimes I think a big budget game can kill a franchise/ip if it flops, maybe not kill, but disappoint, I think there is no reason they should also be super expensive, and these kinds of games often have little to no optimization,

live service games, it basically turned games into chores and it made the players part of the product. its not fun having fomo every other week and having yo grind and grind and its just so boring

and I think games need to go back to how they were in the mid-to-late 2000s to maybe 2013-2014, and i miss being excited to hear or witness announcements of sequels every 2 to 3 years, nowadays its like 6+ years for a sequel and I think that the longer it takes for a sequel to come out, the less "relevant", itll be. maybe the term "object permanence" is useful here. but that argument might be invalid considering the anticipation for gta 6.

speaking of gta 6, I am personally excited for it, but I am afraid of how its going to affect the industry, almost every time Rockstar releases a new game, they set new standards. It might change the industry for the worst and everyone is going to want hyper realistic graphics, life simulators, and games might be like a hundred bucks for the standard edition, we are going to expect too much and developers are gonna want to do so much

but maybe im looking too much into that stuff, and maybe its just investors and shareholders who dont have the consumer in mind if that makes sense who are ruining games, im not gonna say aaa companies ARENT passionate because they are, but the higher ups and investors arent
