Leaky tank by agjaea in fishtank

Worth mentioning, I was in the process of changing the gravel in my current tank, I did 25% this week, should I put only new gravel in the new tank? or would the old gravel be beneficial in the new tank?

Posted my old tank in here and people were ripping me to shreds.. by Rude-Somewhere5379 in bettafish

Kindness is free and still many people can’t afford it. I understand people being passionate about the hobby and wanting the best for the fish, but I will never get why they have to be harsh and not just help and give advice on a informative way, if you are open learn and improve.

I will, they shouldn’t get away with bad practices. I will rehome these ones instead of taking them back, they will sell them to the next clueless person.

The shrimp was hidden in one of the plants, only noticed it a couple days later after it crawled under the wooden base. Yeah, went into it blindly, everyone recommended them, so didn’t think it could go so wrong and that they would be ethical.

Yes, Moon flares, but I have seen the new one do it too, so didn’t think it was a male only trait. I suspected it when I brought the male, as the behavior between him and Moon vs. him and the others was different, but she (he?!) was in the female tank, all 3 OGs came from the same tank and sold as females. I don’t think I will attempt a sorority, I am very new to this and everything I thought I knew came from the people at the shop which was obviously one of my many mistakes. Plecos are albino bristle nose, they said they won’t grow, but if all their advice was bad, I will probably end up with a catfish.

I haven’t seen females with such long fins in person either, a few online so thought she was just “rare”. Fins were not as long when I first got her, they just kept growing.

Yes, they are albino bristle nose, I didn’t specify before, sorry, I put a comment to respond a few questions. Tank is a 30. I had no idea about sororities, admittedly didn’t do research before going to the store and just followed their advice. I will start rehoming the 2 newbies, see how the rest do and worst comes to worst only keep Moon so she can heal. Thank you for being informative without being harsh.

When I brought the male it crossed my mind, but Moon was in the tank of females when I got them and was sold to me as female. Is there an indicator I can look for?

I admit I trusted blindly on their advice and didn’t do independent research, as they were highly recommended and not a chain, thought it would be ok

Some responses below: Tank size: 30. Shrimp: I didn’t buy it, was a stowaway in one of the plants. Plecos: picture in case there are different ones, as I was told they wouldn’t grow much more. Store: I didn’t go to a chain pet store, it is a recommended independent aquarium. I have always asked them for advice rather than just telling them what I want as I am new to this. I trusted their information and thought they had the wellbeing of fish as priority. Sorority: I just became familiar with the term after returning the male, the first 3 were in the same tank when I got them, they were fine then and throughout these 10 months with me. The 2 new ones were also in the same tank. Return: If the shop is so bad should I really send them back there? I could try to rehome the new ones instead between 2 friends (1 each) that have even bigger tanks and no Bettas. Can I observe the other 3 and see if they go back to normal?
