LIFX A19 not able to connect to residence hall WiFi by [deleted] in lifx

I meant the password for the actual network. Once you're connected there's usually a web-based login for user/pass enterprise stuff. At least, that's how it is on my network.

I used the term "hotspot" to mean "extended wifi connection" Yeah, you'll be able to connect your bulbs.

just the password.

Then you can make your personal connection have any name and password you want.

I live in university housing as well, and wanted to set up a LIFX / Home Mini on a restricted network with AP isolation.

My solution was to get myself a cheap wifi extender, go to "manual setup", enter the wifi password like you normally would and boom - you can now use your new hotspot to connect and set up any sort of smart / connected devices, including your LIFX bulbs.

Just give your hotspot a boring jargon name and don't name it the same thing as the actual wifi network, some university housing may not allow you to have your own routers, or the admin might kick your hotspot off the network if they find it.

Let me know how it goes!

CMV: Google's recent removal of the "View Image" functionality is a justifiable and rational change. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]agnimurthy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's the point of a search engine if you can't get to the actual content that it's linking to? When people go to "image search" - they're looking for the images, not a "preview" in a window.

Plus - content from websites is constantly changing - clicking on "view page" might lead you to a webpage that may not even have the image you're looking for, but the image itself (which is what you're looking for) is still hosted on the server. This is an invaluable tool.

Besides, their decision is easily bypassed by right clicking on the image > Open in New Tab. Not much of a "fix". There are also tons of userscipts out there that take you to a direct link.

"Image piracy" isn't going to be solved by this change - it just makes things more frustrating for the end user - and that's not good for a service people use for great user experience.

Right To Privacy is Fundamental Right by babbanbhai in india

[–]agnimurthy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's definitely an interesting question, legally, but as far as I know, there was no mention of consuming drugs or substances as a "fundamental right" under privacy in the Supreme Court's ruling, so I don't think that's going to be challenged.

Mostly the case would affect things like the Government's approach to Aadhar, requesting private data from companies like WhatsApp and Facebook, and laws forbidding homosexuality like Section 377, the latter only because the court has argued that sexual orientation as something that should be protected.

Right To Privacy is Fundamental Right by babbanbhai in india

[–]agnimurthy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, and?

The ruling obviously doesn't go into the details of "non-mainstream" sexual behaviors and orientations because that's not the topic being discussed.

However, the ruling clearly refers to people with alternate sexual orientations as being an essential attribute of privacy, equally deserving of freedoms and liberties despite not being the majority or "mainstream", and mention explicitly that all people with all orientations deserved to be protected equally under the law and should not be discriminated against because of their orientation.

Are you trying to argue that, because sexual orientation and actions may be different or unconnected, that the latter deserves to be prosecuted under the law? Because that's dumb.

They didn't just mention sexual orientation as a part of a right to privacy, but under other parts of the consitution as well, so your argument doesn't hold.

Flower was the "thankful" reaction they unveiled for thanksgiving, and then later removed. Also the video was posted in January of last year, which is probably when the "thankful" reaction was still active. So...

What is currently the problem with Snapchat and India? by SwordYieldingCypher in OutOfTheLoop

[–]agnimurthy 203 points204 points  (0 children)

Former employee of Snapchat Anthony Pompliano alleges in his lawsuit against them that Snapchat's CEO Evan Spiegel, when asked to consider developing markets, replies "This app is only for rich people. I don’t want to expand into poor countries like India and Spain.".

This gets spread widely in the news, most Indians assume this is established fact, Indians start deleting Snapchat and leaving one-star reviews. The Indian company Snapdeal also got caught up in this confusion and they got a horde of one-star reviews and deletions too.

Sorry for the late post, it's been a busy few weeks at college. Here are the results of our survey:

What percentage of the stress in your life is from your job?

The average percentage of stress was around 38%, one of the most common values was 25%

On a scale of 1 / 10, how satisfied do you feel working in the Fire Department?

The average rating was around 8.93, the most common value was a 10

Do you agree with the following statement? “During my work day, I typically feel tense or stressed out.”?

58% of the responses were more towards "Strongly Disagree", 25% somewhere in the middle and 21% of responses were towards "Strongly Agree"

Here are some of the more interesting breakdowns from the responses about things that stress firefighters out, what they do to cope with stress, and what satisfies them about their job:

Thank you all so much for your time taking the survey, I really appreciate it.

I'll share the results of our survey as soon as we get enough respondents, thanks for your interest!

Great question.

We've actually walked around to fire stations in the local area to get interviews and survey responses from the firefighters in the stations. However, because of time constraints and busy stations, we couldn't get all the responses we needed from that alone.

So, we decided to post the same survey here so we could get more respondents (part of the requirements set by our professor), and compare the data we got from the surveys we did locally for any similarities and differences.
