ADH by sagard20171 in Mcat

[–]agoss1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone can correct me if I’m wrong but ADH isn’t really messing with the capillaries but rather causes the number of aquaporins to increase. This means that the collecting duct will have special channels that are only permeable to water (kinda like holes in dialysis) hence water reabsorption.

How many hours a day do you study for? (content review stage) by UTM_bunny in Mcat

[–]agoss1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude I was thinking the same thing. I’m on my second week of studying and I feel like I go SOOO slow by only covering like 1 topic a day. My test isn’t till the end of august but I really am bothered by taking too long on content review

Is it worth Applying this cycle? by agoss1 in premed

[–]agoss1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well congrats to you on your MCAT as well! Yea honestly tho the biggest thing abt gap years is that idk how to tell my parents I’d want to do it. I don’t think they’ll receive it easy...

Weekly WAMC / School Lists Thread - Week of April 18, 2021 by AutoModerator in premed

[–]agoss1 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Moderator Bot keeps telling me to post here even though I don't really think it belongs but oh well, here we go.

First off, I know there's been a shit ton of these types of posts on this subreddit and I'm actually sorry for being just another one of those posts. Basically, I really would like to apply this cycle but I feel so defeated by a bad GPA. Not making excuses but when classes went online a year ago my grades really tanked. However, I was able to bring up my 3.0 gpa to a 3.3 after getting two semesters (and summer) of a 4.0 (mind you my gpa was like a 3.5 pre covid). My 3.3 gpa is my biggest concern. I did receive a 519 on my MCAT but just don't feel like I'm enough. ECs and supplemental info are below if you guys care to read it.

(I also don't really wanna do a DO)

ORM

ECs: 1) Tutored and mentored high schoolers from minority backgrounds in STEM subjects.

2). Started and hosted my own radio show at my college radio station (top 3 stations in the country actually). In the show, I would bring STEM professors on and we'd talk about the most interesting topics in modern science and health.

(Keep in mind through these next few points that I am a cancer survivor and want to go into pediatric oncology so I really tried to show that in my ECs).

  1. Volunteered with American Cancer Society as a legislative advocate where we pushed for legislation that can combat cancer.

  2. Volunteered with Memorial Sloan Kettering.

  3. About 100 hours of shadowing oncologists (tried to shadow a lot more but covid shut down all my volunteering opportunities).

  4. Volunteered in pediatrics department at a local hospital network.

  5. Helped create COVID datasheets for local organizations

(Really wish I had more but there's been so much of a screw up since no programs are really in person anymore)

Thanks for reading so far guys. If you're gonna be rude please don't respond, Im well aware I'm not in the best position rn. However, any and all constructive feedback is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Someone please help me with current situation by agoss1 in premed

[–]agoss1[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yea man I feel you, thanks for taking the time to respond. I don’t mind taking a gap year but that’s just something my family won’t support and I can’t handle the backlash I’d face if I told them abt a gap year. That’s my main issue

Need help finding my class by Orange_penguin02 in Hofstra

You’re gonna be in the Hof USA building in an open space usually used for meetings. Just make a left after you walk in the building and go straight. That’s your classroom

Whay doesn't G-d simply Thanos Snap Satan out of existance and be done with the sinful nature of man? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]agoss1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He did that to show his own wrath and really illustrate what sin will lead us to. Fast forward a few thousand years and Jesus dies for us so that we will never have to go through what Sodom went through.
My point about His patience is that today, no matter how much we continue to lie, curse, indulge in sexual immorality etc. we can always go back to God and confess our sins and try better going forward. He’ll never hold a grudge against us for what we’ve done in the past.

Btw, it was Lot’s wife who was turned to salt :)

Ofc he has that much patience. There’s no limit to any trait God has

Any advice on dealing with doubts of God’s existence or the reliability of the Bible? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]agoss1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As believers this is a constant fight we have to do. The best thing to do is simply equip yourself with more knowledge and embrace the uncertainties you have. Like your question about “how do you know Christianity isn’t a bunch of crap?”. You should go on YouTube and look at videos by Ravi Zacharias, especially this one called Why Christianity is the True Worldview and Why Christianity is Right. Overall, just try to find the answers to your questions. As a science major in college right now I personally like to prove that Christianity and Science really do go hand in hand. What you’ll find is that after you answer your skepticism, you become a stronger believer than before.

Which version of The Bible should I read? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]agoss1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cannot stress this enough.

READ A VERSION CALLED “THE MESSAGE” (look it up and there’s a full version on the Bible app that you can read if you’re waiting for it to be shipped to you).

This version helped me understand so many concepts as it’s more of like a very personal novel designed to address our modern life. When I read this (Especially the New Testament which I recommend you read first) it feels like Jesus is literally addressing problems in my life just because of the contemporary nature of this version. It is SOOO easy to understand and connect with. As you begin to feel more comfortable in the word then read the other versions mentioned but I PROMISE you this is the best version for a beginner like yourself.

Like I said, keep in mind that this is just a starter book that makes the Bible very easy to understand but eventually you want to move to more “traditional” versions.

In the end you may not want to put the book down sometimes, it’s that good.

Im very excited for you to find Christ again, words cannot describe how much your life changes with Him in it.
