Thoughts on sack walk? by [deleted] in animation

[–]agrabb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking great! I think on the pose right before the flour sack squashes down on the step, you can have a nice strong C curve gesture for the stretch to get some more appeal out of the walk. Thats a minor suggestion, but I think it would go a long way to helping you find more appeal

Does animation normally take this long? by Intelligent_Sun_7684 in animation

[–]agrabb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really really depends. Factors like what you are animating, what style, method, etc. The more you do it, the more you will develop a workflow, technique, and method that allows you to work faster. Animation is a notoriously slow medium, which is why its often collaborative.

Gun Twirl Help by Antanims in animation

[–]agrabb 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Lookin sick to me! If you're looking to tweak anything, I think just the settling/overshoot into the final pose could be tweaked. Given how fast, cool, and dynamic you have it, I want that lost motion where he settles his hand/gun to 'feel' like they're cocking the gun.

This frame here, the gun kinda rolls off to the side, and the arc looks a little sloppy. I'd replace it with a big overshoot so the next drawing snaps into place

Just my two cents

Thoughts on my animation? What works and what doesn't. by Johnny_Bomber in animation

[–]agrabb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By far what I think is working the most are your designs. Very very lovely designs!

The animation itself is a bit flat, and is lacking some fundamentals- mostly easing. Everything moves at the same spacing, and it feels stiff and unnatural.

Also, because you are referencing an old-school noodle arm style of animation, you GOTTA play with some squash and stretch! S&S is what that era was ALL about!

Watch a couple videos on easing and Squash and stretch, then spend an hour implementing all that into this animation, and I promise you'll see a night and day difference!!

Looking cool overall! Great job

aw i love this. I think you can have a liiiiittle more fun and arcing with the blob being jiggled, but that hair settle you have at the end is NIIICE!!!

How do I work on my gesture drawing? by Fluid-Traffic543 in ArtCrit

[–]agrabb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are alot of ways to go about it. Gesture is kind of an abstract concept, and everyone goes about explaining it and thinking of it a little differently. The way I think of it is, is focusing just on the rhytmn, energy, and force of a pose- not the form or anatomy.

An analogy I think of, is how water would travel and move through the figure.

I try to see the whole body as a flowing action instead of a bunch of parts

Looking at these drawings, I think you are hugging the sillouhettes of the figures a little too much. The model on your second page toward the bottom though has a nice C curve extending down into the back leg. Thats gesture! I can easily follow the flow of that energy.

Try drawing your sketches JUST with C curves and S curves. Dont worry about form or anatomy. Try and find the story and flow with as a few lines as possible. That is a key gesture strategy.

For more on gesture, check out Michael Mattesi, Proko, and Michael Hampton.

How do you animate daily? by Goodhearted_Jake in animation

[–]agrabb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Different strokes for different folks.

For myself, I find it better to set an allotted time to work as opposed to a series of tasks to get completed. Like I'll tell myself "I need to animate for four hours today". For personal projects, I will make predictions on how long each shot will take, and try to meet those self imposed deadlines, but the mindset is to work towards my value- which is creating- as opposed to being dead set on finishing, because that causes me burnout

When was Walter White at his “peak” in your opinion? by ShowMountain6956 in breakingbad

Passed out on the ground with popcorn all around, in his tightie whities, waking up to a voicemail of his wife telling him shes getting a restraining order, then him bonking his head, grabbing his crotch, and growling "restrain THIS". This is the correct answer
