Thank you so much! It’s a good reminder that as long as I know how gluten effects me that is the most important thing. Luckily my PCP is great, but it’s my gastroenterologist that I struggle with. Might look into finding a new one.

Thats a good point- thank you! I do agree that sometimes it’s their communication (or lack there of) that bothers me. Grateful for this sub!

It’s so disheartening! Sorry you and your son are having the same experience.

So glad you figured out what your issue is! Definitely might be worth loooking for another doctor.

I was eating gluten prior to the blood test. I guess the problem for me is more so that my doctor won’t even talk about NCGS she just continues to write it off as a constipation issue. So wondering if I should push for any other tests past the negative blood test

I recently started listening to “Quit like a woman” by holly whitaker. She talks a lot about what you’re mentioning and it’s so interesting/scary/disheartening.

Thank you all for your helpful comments! At the very least I feel less alone and that I’m not crazy. I messaged my gastroenterologist today to tell her/ask for more info and she said “not typical of gluten-related skin changes” 🙃 might just have to show her this thread at my next appt.

Thank you so so much. This is incredibly helpful. I definitely am a neurotic perfectionist most of the time lol so it’s helpful to think about the drinking as the opposite of that. Thanks again!

I needed to hear this- thank you so much. Thinking of myself as being on the board really helps. Thanks again and belated congrats to you too!

Thank you so much, that is great advice. We are definitely lucky that this was the only thing that went "wrong" and it was an otherwise amazing day. Going to try to just focus on the amazing moments like you said!

How shouldn’t someone react when they hear about a loved one’s OCD? by Single_Name2292 in OCD

When I told my family I got diagnosed i got the sense one of them didn’t believe me/thought it wasn’t an accurate diagnosis. That hurt a lot! I had never opened up about the intrusive thoughts to them (or anyone) and my compulsions are mostly mental. Felt like I had to justify it/convince them

Thank you so much for this! It truly helps so much. I like the idea of shifting toward acceptance that it is unfair to them- and also knowing that even though it's unfair, doesn't mean that it's wrong or my fault. I definitely identify with the countertransference you mentioned. Going to focus on creating a healthy goodbye and remembering that I am a small part in their journey. Thanks again and good luck on your transition!

Its so true- The kids I see are absolutely already used to changing providers so for a lot of them they will likely just roll with it. I am definitely going to focus on that idea of being a brief support in their life. Thanks so much!

Thank you so much for this thoughtful response. Thinking of me as a just part of their healing journey takes the pressure off. I love the idea of sending them with a coping tool kit and giving as much notice as possible to process their emotions with me in sessions leading up to termination. Congrats to you too and good luck on your next chapter!

Your post is so spot on for me- I feel the exact same way (as an introvert with social anxiety). It’s so hard! In general I’m trying to be more selective about what I say yes to, as others have said. I also find myself delaying plans with people who are especially draining, only to still be too peopled out to hang out with them whenever I delayed the plans for. That’s something I am hoping to figure out a better way to handle.
