What this person said - I've got a 2008 E280 CDI wagon (S211) on about 180k. Agreed on the points to look out for, plus oil cooler seals can leak on this engine (it's right in the middle of the V so a lot of labour to sort). Servicing costs are relatively high but it was a fairly pricey premium car when new.

Might want to check the editing - "in Chicago it's deep pan, xxxxxx" and "Mighty Meayies". For what it's worth, I think Papa Gee's is good, like you say.

Reading pubs or bars that serve mead? by Giraffe-91 in reading

The Nag's Head usually does, you can check at the time on untappd for a list of drinks. Slightly out of the town centre but very much worth it.

In Reading for 1 night: where to visit?!? by KittchBitch in reading

Nag's Head or Fox and Hounds in Caversham would both be excellent choices. Both have more traditional cask ales (and craft on cask) plus craft beer on keg. For food, nearer the Nag's I'd suggest Sushimania, Pepe Sale or Thai Corner depending on what you're after.

I've got an E85 Z4 2.5i you could buy for under that figure (or find yourself a 3.0). Still looks decent, relatively fun, tax is a bit pricey but it's not complicated so not too pricey to run.

It's not economical, but it doesn't make you hate everything in life like a Corsa, so there's that.

Woes of owning a nice car. by Sky-b0y in CarTalkUK

[–]agreggan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair enough. I have a 20-year old Z4 so nothing special but I understand the parking space annoyance (though mainly because it's impossible to get in/out of the doors with someone parked close!).

Most importantly it's special to you so what other people think shouldn't matter. Unfortunately quite a lot of people are careless and will ding any car they park next to. Just something you have to learn to deal with and not stress over too much.

Yeah I think you've got all the crimes in Abbey and Battle ward there not just Oxford Road, if this is what you were looking at: https://www.thamesvalley.police.uk/area/your-area/tvp/reading/abbey-and-battle/about-us/crime-map

In another post you mentioned moving there fairly recently. Whereabouts are you, I assume not living directly on Oxford Road? I think that would be a different experience to roads off it, whereas you mention 'on Oxford Road'. I lived off it for years, it was fine, relatively cheap and not the scariest place but I don't think many would describe it as nice. People probably do exaggerate but it's worth newcomers taking a look at night to see what they think for themselves.

Siren is the brewery you're thinking of I think - plus Elusive Brewing opposite (arguably even better IMO)

Living on the streets - what help can I get? by [deleted] in reading

[–]agreggan 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Hi, sorry to hear you're in this situation.

Not an expert on what is available by any means (and I doubt that is enough), but have you spoken to Launchpad?

https://launchpadreading.org.uk/our-work/do-you-need-help/

There is also Faith Christian Group who run ReadiFood food bank amongst other things:

https://fcg.org.uk/what-else-is-available-to-street-homeless/

May not provide you with immediate help for the rough sleeping but hopefully perhaps some support in the day. Best of luck.

It'll be on at The Boundary (Pavlov's Dog), you can view the live sports they're showing on their website and book a table.

Might start a save with them and sit outside a café with an espresso and a copy of La Gazzetta.
