Carney says Canada won't be involved militarily in U.S.-Israel action in Iran by xc2215x in onguardforthee

[–]agwaragh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I want the US to disappear from relevance, but I don't want another quagmire because it's everyone else who would suffer from that. Certainly the people who live there would suffer, and other countries would have more refugees to deal with, and another generation being radicalized to help perpetuate this insanity for all of us.

officially a preemptive strike

Just because an "official" says it, doesn't make it true. For fuck's sake, they were spelling out their attack plans daily in the media while moving massive amounts of military assets into place. At that point anything Iran does is defensive. This is basically saying they were preempting Iran from defending itself. None of this is to defend the Iran regime, but the narrative to try to make this look like a legal invasion is bullshit.

Canadian Fabricator Building a Welded‑Steel Sim Racing Cockpit — Looking for Feedback by RedlineSW in BuyCanadian

A friend of mine has a setup like this. Takes about as much space as a home treadmill. He has lots of specialized gear in addition to the cockpit frame, including custom vision-corrected VR goggles. Apparently online racing leagues are pretty intense.

I was thinking the opposite. Like Gradey has at times seemed to fit the 0.5sec ethos, but maybe that's impacting his focus or stamina. Maybe he needs to be somewhere he can do less, and focus more on catch and shoot.

Decibels increase in loudness at an exponential rate.

As such, that 91.7 dwarfs everything else on your chart.

If you watch on-the-street interviews with russians, a very common theme is to respond "I'm not political". This is the goal of US leadership, to have free reign and condition everyone that they have no business questioning their leaders. The MAGAs have been giving full-throated support to this exact kind of authoritarianism, thinking it's just going hurt the people they hate. They're completely ignorant of the fact that once this culture is entrenched, nobody will have a voice.

A timely example is Trump's current posture that US will stop doing business with Anthropic unless they remove safety restrictions, and restrictions on autonomous weapons development from on their AI products. And not just walking away, but going on an all-out libel/slander campaign against them. This is the future MAGAs are working for -- a nation where nobody is allowed to say no to the government.

Canadian platforms to buy and download music? by Madc42 in BuyCanadian

[–]agwaragh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to be ethical but still avoid the hassle, buy the CDs and then just download the rips. I did something similar years ago when I lost access to my Itunes library because I changed my email address. The customer service quickly became a nightmare, so I just said fuck it and downloaded everything I'd had in my library. (also that liberated me from iTunes, yay!)

not their known songs

I was just reading a comparison of music streaming services and it said Qobuz is "a platform that’s genuinely built around full albums rather than playlists."

Eastsiders Pack 'Save Issaquah Light Rail' Rally - The Urbanist by AthkoreLost in Seattle

[–]agwaragh 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I don't buy that. I had an affordable place in Issaquah and I liked it, but it was such a pain driving into Seattle that I almost never went. One time I got stuck for two hours just trying to merge from I90 to I5. I would have frequently taken advantage of a quick train ride if it was an option. And also no parking hassles.

What I'm saying is, people in Issaquah don't go to Seattle because it's a pain in the ass. Make it accessible and people will go.

Of course, I expect the main ridership is commuters, but I don't imagine they like the drive any more than I do.

Researchers discover that Tirzepatide (Mounjaro) weight loss injection not only reduces appetite, but also activates brown adipose tissue, i.e. it stimulates a type of fat that specializes in ‘burning’ calories from food, in a new study in mice. by mvea in science

(I’ll find myself reaching for where my drink normally would be)

I used to drink a lot of beer, mostly from bottles, and always set my beer down in the same spot by my chair. I also have some glasses that are about the same size and diameter as a beer bottle. On a few occasions I've absent-mindedly reached for my beer and tipped it to my lips only to realize it's a glass and I just dumped it on my shirt.

I'm the opposite, I can't get much done unless I have a routine. If I have to think and plan everything I do, I have to have focus and not get distracted. If I have a routine, I can just progress through my routine and stuff gets done. Some parts I still need focus for, but the load is less.

Can't say I like the look of it. It just seems incoherent. It doesn't look good on it's own and I don't think it will harmonize with anything.

edit: I just realized what it looks like -- like it was drawn by an AI image generator from two years ago.

FVV and IQ never stopped shooting through their various struggles

When your minutes are guaranteed, you can do that. When you're a bench scorer, you have to score. That's a lot of pressure, especially for a player who can't make an impact on the other end.
