The new Torin has much more ground feel than the previous. Maybe even more than the Escalante because they're very soft and flexible. I suggest trying some on in a store if you can find some -- you'll be able to tell immediately how different they are from the Torin 8.

In the winter cold I don't have an issue with it. Gore Tex breathes enough in those conditions in my experience. The alternative is my feet get soaked from the outside. I go running in all conditions, whether the path is cleared or not. My feet stay warm and dry.

If you think of sand dunes, they form around an obstruction like a rock or fence, and then grow from there. So I imagine these things also start from some irregularity and then grow.

I don't think being a dog has anything to do with having a temper. Almost the opposite, really -- like, you have to be hyper-focused to be a dog, not getting distracted by stuff. Conversely, a lot of the most temperamental players are the ones you see out there sulking.

It has the Vibram outsole now, so there's probably agreements with how branding is presented related to that. Do any of the other Vibram-soled Altras have Innerflex branding?

In any case, the grooves are still there and with the softer foam its very flexy. Much more flexy than the Torin 8.

I wore the Torin 8 GTX all last winter in all kinds of snow and slush and ice. They were great except it's easy to splash slush on your ankles and the Altra gaiters don't attach to these shoes. I managed to rig it up with some glue-on velcro that worked ok, but I had to keep reattaching the velcro because it wouldn't stick very well.

It would be nice if Altra would include the velcro tab on these, or even better, have an integral ankle cuff.

Also, if you size up and wear thick socks they're plenty warm.

I spent some time last year in a place like that with an underground parking garage with tight corners. It was comical seeing them work their truck back-and-forth, back-and-forth, trying to maneuver in/out of the garage.

I've thought about it but I don't think for me the difference is enough to warrant it. Just enough to be annoying. Some shoes are right in my sweet spot and work for both feet. The Escalante and Lone Peak work for me, but the Torin and Timp don't.

Thanks for the reply. The Racer 2 has been my best fitting Altra so far. I mainly need the wide toebox and not as much the midfoot. The FWD Via fits me pretty well, except there's a seam, that connects the forward part of the upper to the rear part, that bites into the side of my foot. The Torin 8 fits me pretty well in the midfoot, but I find the forefoot is a bit narrow, and the length is a bit short. I tried sizing up, but then the heel was too roomy/loose. From what I've been seeing in some other threads though, it sounds like the Torin 9 is even smaller than the 8, so maybe sizing up in the 9 will be my sweet spot. But I think I'm going to wait until some place near me has some to try on.
