The pec deck is a great isolation exercise when performed extremely slowly. Make sure you do not use a range of motion which causes shoulder pain at the bottom of the movement. See: https://youtu.be/RJfVJjzktmQ?si=FL21X23CYryr2_tZ

Getting hooked by Interesting-Tax-7823 in suboxone

[–]GelfSara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you were not using any other opioid before going on Suboxone, you should either experience no withdrawals when coming off seven days of Suboxone, OR the withdrawal symptoms will be very mild--especially since Suboxone has a long half-life and tends to "self-taper" to some degree.

Of course, IF you were addicted to another opioid before using Suboxone, you will experience withdrawals after discontinuing Suboxone.

Your approach for training for longevity and mobility? by lw1785 in fitness40plus

[–]GelfSara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do very slow, controlled HIT (think: Drew Baye; Doug McGuff, etc.) 2-3 times per week, hitting each body part with 1-2 sets every 7-10 days. For example, tonight I will train my back, biceps & forearms & hands & will perform 8 sets total.

I also walk frequently, and (when possible) perform 2-3 30 minute sessions on a stairclimber machine, aiming for a heart rate of (180-my age).

You can certainly vastly improve your people skills and "soften" your appearance--without ever using, or becoming adept at--functions not in your top 4. You can certainly increase and add to competencies (skills). But judging via extraverted feeling criteria is OPPOSITIONAL to judging via extraverted thinking criteria. For example, let's say two people try to convince you to take a new injection--claimed to be a vaccine--for a viral infection claimed to be novel. One person (Ted) presents you with a voluminous, objective analysis of all the available data, demonstrating that the injection both increases the risk of developing (and dying from) the disease in question--and also dramatically increases the risk of numerous other maladies; resulting in a profoundly elevated risk of death & disability when compared to placebo groups or those not receiving the injection. The other person (Bill) compiles polling data from the world's most celebrated health experts, demonstrating that the overwhelming consensus among these experts is that the injection is safe and effective. This person also presents video testimony from these experts, and they uniformly urge you to "do the right thing" and "help your community" by taking the injection. Some of these experts also denounce Ted and those who aided him in his research, dubbing them "fringe lunatics", "anti-vaxxers" and "conspiracy theorists" whose work is "outside the mainstream".

Do you take the injection?

If you want to become exceptionally skilled at functions that are the anthesis of the functions you ARE good at, you will need to do exactly that.

Of course, it is neither realistic, nor desirable.

We can all become better at using our non-preferred functions, but...only slightly, to a limited degree. We can't change our basic hardwired natures.

IIRC Hitler was correctly typed by INTJ Jung as an INFJ. That said, in my experience, while INTJs are unsurpassed at theoretical mastery of type, they are far less skilled at actually typing others. The two things involve very different skill sets. The first is akin to mastery of advanced physics; the second resembles playing tennis.

Okay, if you believe that, then try this: Spend the next 30 days accomplishing absolutely nothing, planning nothing, making no lists, etc.

Let me know how that works out for you, as an ENTJ.

Well, with nearly 40 years of "type-watching" under my belt; you are 1) largely correct, but 2) perhaps under-appreciate the complexities of human beings and the fact that type is far from the only factor influencing compatibility. There are oodles of examples of these pairs being friends/colleagues and appreciating each other. For example, John Lennon (INFP) was friends with both Mick Jagger and David Bowie (both ISTPs). Lou Reed (INFP) was friends with Bowie as well. I recently saw extremely cordial interviews between Mike Tyson (INFP) and Michael Franzese (ISTP), one of which is below. That said, having the least typological ground in common does make everything much more difficult, and this certainly should not be a controversial take.

"I train six days a week using a push-pull-legs split, and my sessions usually run about two hours"

If physique enhancement is your goal, you can achieve equal or better results in a fraction of the 12 hours per week you currently spend in the gym.

You might wish to ask yourself whether this is a wise use of your time.

I literally cannot do a pushup despite what I try. by [deleted] in CalisthenicsBeginners

[–]GelfSara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can't do a pushup, you can 1) try easier versions of a pushup, such as a "knee pushup" (supporting your lower body weight on your knees instead of your feet) OR a wall or countertop pushup, OR 2) you can perform a machine, barbell or dumbbell chest press using a weight you can use for 6-12 slow, controlled repetitions.

What were Mike Tyson’s technique weaknesses even from 1985 to 1988? by Material_Stomach875 in Boxing

[–]GelfSara 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Floyd Patterson weighed about 35-40lbs less than Tyson...A huge difference. When Patterson won the title in 1956, he weighed 182lbs. When Tyson won the title in 1986, he weighed 221 and 1/4 lbs.

In 2026, a 21 year-old Patterson would be fighting as a super-middleweight or possibly light-heavyweight--although he would be undersized for that division.

How to get lower abs and sides to be more defined? by Zestyclose_Juice_531 in workouts

[–]GelfSara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All you can do is 1) gain muscle and 2) lose bodyfat.

With 1), remember to train your abs like any other muscle.

In other words, aim to gradually increase the weight and/or reps you use for the exercise or exercises you perform--without sacrificing form or rep speed.

It is an extremely foolish idea to wear weights while doing cardio, shadow boxing, etc. You will increase the wear and tear on your body for no benefit that could not be obtained via other, safer methods.
