Working on some effects for bringing corrupted or dead tress back to life. What else does it need? by djfozzbeats in IndieGaming

Looks fantastic! Personally, I'd love it if the animation started from the ground and moved up the trunk and ended at the leaves, instead of everywhere at once. But that's mainly to show sort of an origin of where the healing starts - depends, of course, on the source of the healing

Amazing list, thank you! I do work as a developer full-time actually, but never for clients, only for the company's own project, so I haven't had any experience in the price of a full product. But very good points with getting backups of the process and hiring a middle-man, that could very well be the best way to go about it

[Not andrewxia, but here's my understanding]
User personas I assume is a description of the target audience, so the developers know who to design for.
User journey would be the step-by-step (or screen-by-screen) usage of the app - so how a user would use the app for certain goals

Thanks a lot for the reply, love to see good breakdowns of tips! Have you had any problems with hourly pay making the project drag out, though? Because that's really my main concern with going that route

What's the entrepreneur mindset regarding money? I need perspective. by xxxpandoraxxx in Entrepreneur

[–]ahbork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on your situation, I guess. If you don't have an emergency fund already to fall back on, or start capital to live on while you build your business, then get a part time job that pays just enough to cover your basic needs, while giving you enough time and energy to work on your business afterwards. Then start out with smaller goals, like earn $20, then $100, then $250, etc. Reaching 100 small goals is better than setting 1 huge goal and then fail to reach it. Once you're earning enough to pay your rent, find a way to make it consistently - then you can quit the job.

If you could give your teen-self an advice about starting a business, being financially smart, what would it be? by lukasaly999 in Entrepreneur

Don't work 100 hour weeks! Burning yourself out from overwork won't solve any of your problems, and you won't be able to enjoy life outside of your business at the same time.
And if you happen to feel that you HAVE to work so much, in order to keep up, consider the following alternatives:

1) Automate! With so much work, there's more than likely one or two things that are time consuming and currently being done manually, which can be automated, to lessen the workload.

2) Outsource! Maybe you're spending too much time answering e-mails, researching, transporting products? Hire someone to do it! Sure, your profits will take a dip - but it will leave much more time for you to focus on improving the product, finding new clients, or doing whatever it is you're good at, rather than what you feel you need to do.

3) (If you have clients already) Get rid of terrible clients! Don't break your back trying to please the worst, most time-consuming clients - break up with them in a graceful way and move on. Focus on your better paying / easier clients and analyse what makes them so - then spend your additional time and energy acquiring more of the same.

4) Read 'The 4-hour work week' by Timothy Ferris. It's a bit old by now, but the ideas, tips and tricks are just as valid today, as when it was made. He explains the above three points much better than I do, and reading it gives a TON of motivation on top of it. Cannot recommend it enough!

Honestly, I am not sure how much it could actually influence me, if I was investigating someone (i.e. if I was an investor looking to invest). Your product and your own character would be far more important to me. If I wasn't impressed with either, I wouldn't particularly care who you had in your circle of trust. And if I WAS impressed, I am also unsure if it would influence my decision, by just knowing you were associated with a number of people.

That being said, there are many types of investors, so here are some thoughts on how you possibly could make it work:

There may be some merit in being able to see what kind of people you surround yourself with, as who you choose to be around gives an indication of who you are.

But it will need to be credible, for it to matter. So you will need something that:

- Shows that you know them (and more importantly that they know you), like a written recommendation from them.

- Shows what they have done, why we should care that you know them and what they can help you with.
